The Personal Testimony of Dr. Peter S. Ruckman I’m going to talk to you about Why I Believe the King James Bible is the Word of God. If you don’t believe that or don’t know why or wonder why, you’ll be very much upset before I get through, because in order to magnify the word of God, you have to put a lot of things down to their proper level. When you take all these false gods in the body of Christ and put them down to their proper level, you always get into trouble with somebody. So we’ll just go ahead and get into trouble. The Psalmist says: “Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever” (Ps. 119:160). I believe that. I believe the word of God is true from the beginning (Gen. 1), and every one of God’s righteous judgements endures forever. When you get to Jeremiah 23:36, you read, “For ye have perverted the words of the living God.” That’s a charge brought against somebody who perverted the words of the living God. So, the living God gave some living words; as Christ said, “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). Someone took those living words from the living God and perverted those words. Folks say about this subject, “Well, I believe it is a hobby horse.” No, there’s no “hobby horse” about what I’m going to talk about. The subject of final authority is a crucial subject—absolutely crucial to anything going on in America or the world today. If there’s one issue that’s important anywhere in the world today, it’s the issue of final authority—absolute truth. We’re talking about a timeless subject, a subject that’s more important than almost any other subject in this world. There are only two religions besides Christianity that believe a book is the final authority. The Roman Catholic’s final authority is the Pope and the church and the Bible and anything else he wants to make up to get himself through. But the Jew professes to be in subjection to a book—the Old Testament. A Mohammedan professes to be in subjection to the Koran. So the Christians, the Jews, and the Mohammedans are the only people that profess to be in subjection to a final authority that is a written, printed authority that a man can get his hands on. A child of God professes to be in subjection to the Old Testament AND the New Testament. And Jeremiah said somebody took those words in that book and perverted them. The first thing I want to say is this: I believe the King James Bible is the word of God because it’s the only book I have in my library that doesn’t have a copyright. You ask, “What about the ‘Crown Copyright’ back in 1611?” I’m not talking about 1611; I’m talking about right now. Folks are always hung-up on the originals, but I never worry about the original King James 1611. I worry about the one I’ve got in my hand. Have you got a Bible in your hand right now? If you have a plain King James Bible, you have a Book with no copyright on it. If you have some notes in your Bible, it may have a copyright. If you have a Scofield Bible, then there is a copyright connected with it, or if you have a Bible that has in it some maps, an index, and references, you may have a copyright on it. But anybody, anywhere in the world, can go down to the dime store and get a plain King James Bible with no notes, no references, no maps, no gazetteer, and no concordance, and there’s no copyright in it. That’s unexplainable. How do you explain a book sitting here that has no copy-right on it, when there are fifteen million books in the Library of Congress, and every one of them printed in this century has a copyright on it? That’s a mess of books, man! And one of them doesn’t have a copyright. How do you explain that? New “Bibles’’ come out, a printer prints them, and there is a copyright on them. A fellow said, “Oh, well, that thing is just to guarantee that no one misrepresents it.” I don’t believe that. Copyrights are for making money. Copyrights are so that people have to write and ask, “Can I print that?” Yes, you can—for a tidy sum. I believe the King James Bible is the word of God because it has no copyright on it. It may have the Crown Copyright, but you don’t have to ask the Crown for the right to print it. In Ecclesiastes 8:4 it says, “Where the word of a king is, there is power.” If it had a Crown copyright, it was copyrighted under a king. If it was copyrighted under a king, it has the right copyright. I don’t have any faith at all in these Bibles translated in America (RSVs, ASVs, New ASVs, Weymouth, Moffat, Living Bible, Goodspeed, and all that junk). You ask, “Why not?” They’re not translated under a king. The Bible says, “Where the word of A KING is, there is power.” Somebody asks, “What’s so good about the English? Why do they have a corner on the market?’’ They have a corner on the market because that’s the way God worked it out. What time is it right now? It’s 6:39. Some people’s watches may have 6:40, and some people’s watches may have 6:38. Well, “they’re all reliable; they’re all good,” that’s how people are. But there’s only one correct time on the face of this earth: English time. If you’ve got English time, you’ve got the right time, and if you haven’t got English time, you’ve got the wrong time. All time on this earth is settled by Greenwich, England; the zero line runs right down it. I believe the King James Bible is the word of God because of the time in which it first appeared on the scene of this world. When the King James Bible first showed up in history, there were a number of things that weren’t around that are around today. When those King James translators sat down to translate that Book, French atheism was not in vogue; German Rationalism was not in vogue; English Deism was not in vogue. All the objections to the word of God came up AFTER the King James Bible came out. The French Revolution hadn’t taken place yet. The German Rationalists hadn’t taken over yet. They were still going by Martin Luther’s Heilige Schrift. The English Deists, Lord Hubert, Holmes, Hobbes, and that bunch, hadn’t showed up yet. The King James was translated at a time in history when God the Holy Spirit could work and get some men to produce a work that they believed in, because all that stuff wasn’t going on. When these new bibles are printed (ASV, RSV, New ASV), the fellows who are on those committees are literally INFECTED and DISEASED with infidelity! Jack Hyles preached once up at Jerry Falwell’s school, and when he got through preaching up there, they talked about it back in the classroom. One student said to his teacher, “Brother Hyles implied that the King James Bible was inspired,” and the teacher said, “You know what the Bible says, ‘He knew not whereof he spoke.’” Then he told that young man in the class, “After all, here’s a contradiction: it says here that Jehoiakim was eight years old when he began to reign. There’s a contradiction right there.” There’s a fellow in the classroom in a fundamental school creating an infidel in the classroom. You say, “Where’s that?’’ Liberty University, that advertises the greatest Bible Institute course in the world and says their Bible Institute course is absolutely unequalled when it comes to learning the word of God! To sit there in the classroom and tell the kid that there is a contradiction: that isn’t creating a Bible believer; that’s creating infidels. I believe the King James Bible is the word of God because of the promise God made of preserving His word. He said, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever” (Psalm 12:6-7). God Almighty said He’d preserve that Book, and He’d preserve that Book forever. I don’t think a bunch of infidels are going to take it away from me. If I want to find it, there must be someplace that I can find it. The fellows at Bob Jones University say, “God Almighty couldn’t inspire a translation.” I’ve never said that the King James Bible was inspired, although I’ve broadly intimated it sometimes. At Bob Jones they say, “Why, Ruckman teaches the heresy of double inspiration. A translation can’t be inspired.” Why, in the New Testament there are more than forty quotations from the Old Testament. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew; the New Testament was written in Greek. When Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, James, Jude, and Paul sat down to write and quoted the Old Testament, they had to translate from Hebrew to Greek and write down the translation. When Matthew said, “It might be fulfilled which was spoken” (Matt. 2:15), he’s quoting Hebrew, and he’s writing the Hebrew down in Greek. If no translation is inspired, then the original of Matthew wasn’t inspired because what he wrote down was a translation of Hebrew. Matthew said, “Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel” (Matt. 1:22-23). He’s quoting Isaiah. What’s Isaiah written in? Hebrew. What’s Matthew written in? Greek. He’s translating. If you can’t inspire a translation, you can’t even count on the New Testament in Greek because it’s a translation from the Old Testament in Hebrew. I believe the Bible is the word of God because of it’s promise of preservation. The scholars tell me that I can’t get ahold of the word of God. They tell me I can’t get ahold of the words of God. If I can’t get ahold of the word and the words of God, I’m sure in one flat-footed mess, aren’t I? Christ said, “If a man love me, he will keep my words” (John 14:23). Do you love him? How do you keep His words if you don’t have them? Christ said, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” (John 15:7). How do you get a prayer promise if you don’t keep His words? Christ said, “He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God” (John 8:47). How do you hear them, if you don’t have them? The Bible says to the preacher, “Preach the word” (2 Tim. 4:2). What? Preach something you don’t have? The Lord said preach the word, and if you’re of God you’ll listen to it. And then He lost it? Rather careless, don’t you think, for God to verbally inspire this Book and then forget the thing and lose it? It’s a good thing He doesn’t treat your salvation like that, isn’t it? Did He give you the new birth? Are you still born again? How do you know? Maybe it got lost somewhere; who knows? If God can preserve you, then He can preserve what He wrote. I believe the King James Bible is the word of God because of the instruments of its preservation. You ask, “Who’s that? That silly vassal, King James?’’ King James may have been “God’s silly vassal,” but he had better sense than to have somebody bow down and call him “Holy Father;” and that’s more than you can say for some pot-bellied liquorheads. Maybe he fell off horseback and played tennis on Sunday, but at least he didn’t have somebody call him the Vicar of Christ. You’ve got to admit he had more sense than that. The translators might have been silly vassals, but at least they used the right manuscripts. When they saw a bunch of manuscripts that had the Apocrypha in the Old Testament, they said, “That’s wrong: put it between the Testaments. They are not supposed to be part of the Old Testament.” They had more sense than the faculty at Bob Jones, who recommend the Westcott and Hort Greek text in their literature. The Westcott and Hort Greek text is Sinaiticus and Vaticanus, and Sinaiticus and Vaticanus have the Apocrypha as part of the Old Testament. Somebody said, “I just don’t like the way they bragged about King James and that Bible.” Why not? Doesn’t that Bible tell you to be in subjection to the powers that be? Doesn’t the Bible say that the powers that be are ordained of God (Rom. 13:1)? Little articles written by Moody magazine, Faith Magazine, and The Fundamentalist Journal say that the King James translators boot-licked King James and made a fuss over him when he was such a sorry character. They say the translators were afraid of him and buttered him up and called him all these high and mighty titles. Well, that Bible says, “Fear God. Honour the king” (1 Pet. 2:17). When Peter said that, he was talking about Nero, a half-mad murderer! There’s nothing wrong when the King James translators honor their king; they’re obeying God because the powers that be are ordained of God. I believe the King James Bible is the word of God because of the honesty of its preservation. When the King James translators came to a word that wasn’t in Greek or Hebrew and they had to add an English word to make sense, they put it in italics. Somebody says, “What do you think about the italics in the King James Bible?” The italics in the King James Bible are marks that the man who did the translating was an honest man. When he knew he had to add something to make sense, he put it in italics so you could know it wasn’t in the Hebrew or the Greek. That means it’s an honest translation, and the bibles that don’t have italics in them are from fellows who have added to the word of God without letting you know where. The King James Bible is an honest translation. Sometimes you have to add words—anybody knows that. You can pick up ANY Bible on this earth and look through it, and you’ll find places where if you didn’t add a word it wouldn’t make any sense at all. The idioms change in translation. You ask, “Do you believe God led them and guided them in that?’’ Yes, I sure do. As a matter of fact, I know He did. You ask. “How do you know that?’’ Read 1 John 2:23, “Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.” Notice that half the verse is in italics. When the King James translators came to that verse, they couldn’t find half the verse in the Greek manuscripts, but they said, “It seems like it belongs there,” so they wrote it in italics. Do you know what happened two hundred years afterwards? Greek manuscripts were found that had the half of the verse that was put in italics. You had better watch that Book! I believe that Bible is the word of God because of the dis-honesty of its critics. I’ve made a life-long habit of studying its critics, which has probably soured my preaching a good bit. I would probably be more practical and spiritual in my preaching if I hadn’t spent so much time studying these fellows. When you study them, you get a burr under your saddle that makes the horse buck. One reason I believe the King James Bible is the word of God is the pride and inconsistency of its critics. In studying the Mafia, the Cosa Nostra, and the Syndicate, I have never in my life studied a more crooked bunch of dishonest, unethical people than the people who put out and recommend new translations. They’re the biggest crooks on the face of this earth. I believe the King James Bible is the word of God, if for no other reason than the pride and inconsistency of its critics. You can tell as much by its enemies as you can by its friends. If I want to find out what a fellow is like, I find out who his friends are; then I find out who his enemies are. When I know the man’s friends and I know his enemies, I know the man. A man that doesn’t have any enemies is not a man. You ought to have friends, and you ought to have enemies. People ought to be able to tell you by your friends, and people ought to be able to tell you by your enemies. There is a bridge that goes to absolute truth. Christ says, “Thy word is truth.” (John 17:17). Not A truth, not TRUTHS; but “Thy word is truth.” But you have to cross the bridge, and if you don’t go over the bridge, you break your neck and fall down in the gully. This bridge is being condemned; people don’t want you walking over this bridge, but that’s the way. I have ads piled up from the Sword of the Lord: “Learn the original Greek text… See what the Original Greek text says”! There isn’t a man on this earth that ever saw the original Greek text. And if you saw the original Greek text, you couldn’t tell what it said anyway. If you can’t get it in your own language, how are you going to get it in Greek? Tell me what this means, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Phil. 4:13). That’s in your language. Do you believe that? Can you explain it? Do you still sin? Why do you sin if you can do all things through Christ? Do you think the Greek can help you out? There are verses in there you’ll never understand until you live through them, and no amount of education in Greek can tell you anything. Many Christians are out of money and about to declare bankruptcy, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19). You think the Greek will help? I believe the King James Bible is the word of God because of the pride and inconsistency of its critics. Richard Taylor was the name of a fellow who got saved at Brent Baptist Church and got called to preach. We sent him off to Bob Jones University; in those days, we didn’t have a Bible Institute, and if a young fellow got called to preach, I would just send him off to Bob Jones or Tennessee Temple. When they all came back infidels, the Lord got me in a corner one day and said, “Aren’t you kind of stupid?” I said, “What do you mean?” He said, “Every time I call a young man to preach under you, you send him off to school, and he comes back denying the word of God.” We sent Rick Taylor off to Bob Jones, and he became a professor at Bob Jones. One day he came back to Pensacola, and he went down to the street corner on a Saturday afternoon and saw some of our men preaching down there, and it got him all shook up because he hadn’t been preaching on the street. He’d quit. He wasn’t winning souls; he’d quit. He came alongside one of our young men and said, “You’re a Ruckmanite.” Our young man said, “What’s a Ruckmanite?” He said, “You believe the King James Bible is the word of God.” And he said, “I sure do!” Taylor said, “That isn’t all, you don’t believe it has any mistakes in it.” The kid said, “That’s right, I don’t.” And he said, “Ruckman taught you that. You’re following a man.” This kid said to him, “You believe it does have mistakes?” Rick Taylor said, “Yes, I do.” And he said, “What man are you following? Who taught you that?” I know who taught him that. The faculty at Bob Jones taught him that. Many a young man who believes the King James Bible is the word of God has almost been talked out of his belief in it, caused to backslide. What do you want me to do, talk nice about the fellows that did it? Tell you that I’m given to overstatement when I say they’re as bad as the Mafia and the Syndicate? They’re worse. The crooks rob you of your money and your life, but they wouldn’t take your Lord from you or your Book or your testimony. They wouldn’t take your conscience from you or wreck you spiritually for fifty years. If I didn’t have a burden for young men, I wouldn’t care, but I’m concerned about young men. You ask, “Why?” I sent enough to hell before I was saved; so I’m not going to stand around and see someone else do it if I’ve got a claw I can put in. I’m a little fellow, but I’ve got big feet. If I kick, it’ll hurt. Last but not least, I believe the King James Bible is the word of God because of the preeminent place it gives the Lord Jesus Christ. I’ve had plenty of time to study all kinds of translations, and I never saw a new translation of any kind that didn’t attack the deity of Jesus Christ somewhere. The ASV attacks the deity of Christ in Luke 2:33, 1 Timothy 3:16, and Acts 4:27. So do the New ASV, the RSV, and the New RSV. You ask, ‘“What about the New King James Bible?” The New King James Bible attacks the deity of Christ in Acts 4:27. It says that Jesus Christ was not God’s “child;” He was just God’s “servant.” I don’t believe that. I believe he was God’s child. The bridge to absolute truth is a condemned bridge. Do you know who condemns it? It’s condemned by atheists and Catholics. Birds of a feather flock together. It’s condemned by Fundamentalists. That’s why they wanted a new translation. It’s condemned by agnostics and Communists. As a matter of fact, it’s condemned by just about everybody, but I find if you open that old Book and pray over that old Book, you get the answer you’re looking for. It’s the bridge to absolute truth! Billy Graham, in 1949, at the end of his rope, in little old Trinity College down there in south Florida. After the professors tried to talk him out of the word of God, he went out into the bushes, knelt down, and prayed over his Bible and said, “Father, I cannot understand many things about this Book. I cannot come intellectually all the way, but I accept it by FAITH to be the AUTHORITATIVE, INSPIRED WORD of the Living God.” He had a King James Bible open there, kneeling with it. What happened to Billy? Somebody must have talked him out of it. The King James Bible is the word of God, and those are the words of God. You say, “What am I to do with them?” You’re to read them; you’re to believe them; you’re to love them; you’re to put them in practice. Someday, if we have to die for what God said, we won’t be the first ones. There’s a long army ahead of us who died for it. Many Bible readers feel puzzled when reading the genealogies in Genesis. They describe patriarchs living for hundreds and hundreds of years. Adam lived to be 930. His son Seth, 912. Methuselah 969. Noah 950. What’s going on here? Did ancient Bible writers just imagine these incredibly long lifespans? This would seem to be the case since people today only live into their 70s or 80s often with the help of modern medicine. These long lifespans must be mythical, right? Well… maybe not. Certain compelling reasons to believe that the biblical authors were recording the actual long lifespans of these patriarchs have persuaded trained geneticists to take these Genesis numbers at face value. Only then do we see that the average lifespan of these patriarchs who lived before the Flood lived an average of 912 years. After the Flood, their lifespans began systematically declining, following what’s known by biologists as a “biological decay curve.” A mythical list of ages would be unlikely to take such a predictable, exponentially declining curve. Noah, who was the 10th from Adam, lived through the Flood and died at age 950. Noah’s son Shem lived 600 years; his grandson 438 years. Five generations past Noah, lifespans decline to the 200s. Abraham, who was 10 generations after Noah, lived to be 175. We also have Jacob, when he was 130 years old, stating to Pharaoh that he had not lived as long as his ancestors. Jacob later died at 147. Several generations later we have Moses, living to be only 120. What’s going with these lifespans? They systematically decline along a familiar-looking pattern that statisticians call an “exponential power curve.” Plotting their ages does not reveal a straight-line slope, but a curved one. They don’t suddenly bottom out right after the Flood, nor do they decline evenly. Rather, the lifespans decline along a nonlinear, exponential curve over time. And this curve literally passes every test for statistical significance. Whatever is going on here is not some chance occurrence. Their pattern breaks every possibility of being some fluke. Geneticist Dr. John Sanford of Cornell University—who was part of a team that invented the “gene gun”—noted that these lifespans fit so tightly along this power curve that 95% of the lifespan variance is explained by the number of generations from Noah. This statistical model matches the biblical data so closely that its likelihood of occurring by chance lies below one in a thousand. Now that’s uncanny. This exceptionally strong correlation allows us to predict how long people would live based on how many generations they are from Noah. For example, the curve predicts that someone living 10 generations after Noah would have a 90% likelihood of living between 137 and 234 years. Similarly, it predicts with 90% certainty that a descendant alive 15 generations after Noah would live between 100 and 172 years. This model is so powerful that the average lifespans predicted by the model are within 10% of the actual lifespans recorded in the Bible! This close match reaches well beyond coincidence. This leads to an even more stunning realization: The lifespans in the biblical text span over 2,500 years of recorded history. And the original portions of Scripture that include these lifespans—Genesis 5 and 11—were produced by eyewitnesses whose lives overlapped one another for centuries and decades. So how in the world could they be faked? All of the original authors over numerous generations would have to be in on the scam, conspiring together to record lifespans that perfectly declined along an exponential power curve. Like that’s going to happen! Thinking about that for a minute… why would they even want to do that? If you were going to make up some story about people in the past that you wanted your future readers to believe, why would you include such unbelievable lifespans? Making this “myth” explanation even less likely, whoever would fabricate this story must have understood advanced statistics. In addition, look at how the lifespans before the Flood are stable. They don’t follow any sloping trendline. The systematic decline only starts after the Flood, suggesting that some aspect of the Flood event initiated the down-sloping power curve in lifespans. What was it? Dr. John Sanford explains: The mathematical nature of the declining lifespans arose because the Biblical accounts are true, and are actually faithfully recording the historical unfolding of some fundamental natural degenerative process… The shape of the downward slope should be immediately recognized by any biologist. It is a biological decay curve. Noah’s descendants were undergoing some type of rapid degenerative process… there is now very strong evidence that humans are degenerating genetically, and have been for thousands of years, due to continuously accumulating mutations. This makes it very reasonable to conclude that the systematic degeneration of man that is documented in the Bible was due to mutation accumulation and resultant ‘genetic entropy. A genetic bottleneck may well explain why mutations suddenly kicked into high gear. This occurs when a very small group of individuals become isolated from a once-larger population. The few individuals carry fewer genetic variations than their forebears. They now must build each generation using less information in their cellular blueprints. Biologists have watched lifespans decline after bottlenecks in various animal populations, from dogs to guppies. The Genesis lifespan decay curve looks like real biology which points to real history. Books throughout the entire Bible, written by different authors in different timeframes, affirm this history. For example, Peter referred to “the days of Noah,” when “eight souls were saved through water” (1 Peter 3:20). Shrinking the entire human population down to eight was the ultimate genetic bottleneck in human history. This Genesis-based trendline also points to a recent creation. Luke 3 lists a specific number of generations from Adam to Jesus, and the first names on that list coincide with the names in the Genesis accounts. The smooth, systematic decline in longevity leaves no room for hundreds or thousands of missing generations. Even after learning about this amazing evidence in the Bible, many may still hold the popular but poorly defended position that ancient shepherds wrote their dreamed-up family history on animal skins. But it defies reason that ancient writers developed a text that spanned multiple generations, included over 20 lifespans that track over 2,500 years, and include two distinct and biologically relevant trendlines from the pre- and post-flood eras. Even so, how would the supposed shepherd pass off his forged history as real history to his own community leaders? Nobody gets away with that today. It would be impossible to collude such a statistical phenomenon over generations. So, what are the implications that come from this? Well, for one, this shows that the whole of Scripture fits together, with several books from both the Old and New Testaments referring to these genealogies as authentic history. Even Jesus himself referenced by name Abel and Noah as though they were real people (e.g., Luke 11:51, 17:26–27). Paul also referred to them historically, and even computed timespans based on these genealogies, treating them as real history. What causes aging anyway? Biologists continue to investigate unknown aspects of aging, but largely agree that accumulated mutations within the body during one’s lifetime accompany the symptoms of aging, including wrinkled skin, weak bones, and loss of immune and other system efficiency. If God made Adam genetically perfect in the beginning, then no wonder his close sons and daughters could live so long. The Bible also promises that Christ would be our “Kinsman Redeemer,” and breaking apart these genealogies would undermine the Gospel itself. Christ the Redeemer had to map back to Adam as the Bible promised. These findings strongly support the historicity and veracity of the Bible, especially the book of Genesis. They suggest that although the longevity of the early Patriarchs seems extreme from our perspective, it could have been normal for them. The declining lifespans of the post-Flood patriarchs were due to the ongoing degeneration that resulted from Adam and Eve’s Fall and were accelerated by the genetic bottleneck caused by the Flood. The drastic decline in lifespans immediately following the Flood also supports the worldwide extent of the Flood, refuting ideas that it was ordinary or local. Because the genealogies and lifespans are linked, they validate the tight father-to-son nature of the genealogies, without gaps, leading to Adam and Eve living just thousands of years ago. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.” (Psalm 14:1). The Big Bang The majority of modern scientists teach that all matter resided in a singularity, the size of a period in a sentence. This entity, containing all light, matter, and energy that there is, violently exploded and the universe has been expanding ever since. This is called the Big Bang* and is highly theoretical and not without detractors as some ask questions like, “where did the singularity come from” and “if empty space is part of the universe then what about the empty space just ahead of the explosion or a trillion miles in front of it?”. (Q is for Quantum, An Encyclopedia of Particle Physics, by John Gribbin, The Free Press, 1998). Comment: How can something came from nothing? Any person today knows that you can't have "nothing" to make "something" explodes, you need something combustible, an accelerant or an igniter or catalyst for something to explode, just look at fireworks, that is something not nothing. If there was a Big Bang then there has to be something or someone have caused it. Medieval Kabbalists, believers in an occult form of Judaism, believed that in the beginning God filled the universe, then withdrew from it, leaving something the size of a mustard seed, which contained all light, energy, and matter, and exploded, creating what we now know as the universe. The modern Big Bang theory in an oversimplified form sounds a lot like this occultic belief. Comment: This is an example of twisting and fitting the word of God into a naturalist and secularist point of view. God's words are infallible while man's words are fallible, your foundation should always be God's words which is the Bible As quoted in the book, “The Whole Shebang, A State of the Universe(s) Report, by Timothy Ferris, Simon & Schuster, 1997”, astronomer Stuart Boyer admits, “Ultimately, the origin of the universe is, and always will be, a mystery”. I would suggest he read Genesis 1:1. That should help. Comment:  That's them admitting when they said “Ultimately, the origin of the universe is, and always will be, a mystery”, that they really know nothing how the Universe came about, also the word "theory" means speculation, unproved assumption, no where it states that Big Bang is a fact, if it was then it would have been called the Law of Big Bang and yet many people believed this lie. Scientist has jumped to the conclusion that Big Bang is true without confirming using scientific empiricism through observation and repeatable testing proving that Big Bang happened nor were the scientist was there when it happened, but us Bible Believers know because God was there in the beginning and He wrote it in the Bible. The Gap Theory “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” (Genesis 1:2). Because the Hebrew word for “without form”, transliterated Tohuw, is translated as “ in vain” in Isaiah 45:18 and it is said he didn’t create it that way, some people believe there is a large gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2, allowing for millions and millions of years, dinosaurs, ape-men and the like. The main problem with this Gap Theory is that there is the problem of death entering the world with Adam’s sin (Romans 5:12), not before. The counter to this is that the word “world” in that verse, is “Kosmos” referring to the world system, however, this is stretching the clear and literal meaning of the text. Anglican Archbishop Ussher calculated backwards from the Bible and other sources and came to a date of 4004 BC for creation or 6000 years ago. The Hebrew year coinciding with 2009 AD was 5770. The Hebrew year begins in the Autumn while the Hebrew day begins in the evening and 5770 began on September 18, 2009. Gamma Ray Bursts and Sonoluminescence “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3). As God did not create the Sun and the stars until the fourth day most scientists and many Christians scoff at this verse, claiming that, if they believe the verse at all, that there was a cloud cover over the earth blocking out the sun. But, not wanting to call the Biblical text a lie, let me just say that since 1967 a phenomenon known as Gamma Ray Bursts has been known in which a burst of light brighter than all of the universe’s suns combined lasts for a few seconds at random intervals each day. This is not to say that these bursts of high energy radiation explain God’s light but to say that there are sources of light not from the stars (although the basis for these bursts is theoretical, one theory is that they come from collapsing stars). Light being produced by sound passing through water is called sonoluminescence. Comment: God is the source of light (John 8:12, Revelation 21:23) even before He created the Sun to light the earth by day and the moon and stars by night. The Day-Age Theory “4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” (Genesis 1:4-5). Notice the beginning of the first day was in the evening and that this refers to a normal day consisting of evening and morning. Another popular theory is that the “days” of creation were ages of billions of years. This so-called “Day-Age” theory has the problem of the reference to “evening and morning” and the fact that the reference is of “Day” versus “Night”. “6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.” Notice this day is not called good? (Ephesians 6:10-13; Isaiah 24:21; Job 41:31, 32 if referring to outer space). Comment: We should take the word of God literally unless otherwise stated that it's figurative, allegory or metaphor (i.e. using the word: "liken" when making comparisons), if God says one day, then it is a literal one earth day like in Genesis chapter 1 when the Bible says evening and morning when ending a day of Creation which should be understood as 1 earth day, as compared to 2 Peter 3:8 when the Bible says "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day", scholars and theologians would use this verse to prove that the 7 days of Creation meant each day of creation is a thousand years which is a wrong interpretation because as stated before due to inclusion of evening and morning in Genesis chapter 1, these passage in 2nd Peter makes more sense if you believe in a Young Earth Creation where the earth is nearly 6 thousand years old if you based on the Bible genealogy and after that is the 7 year Great Tribulation then the Millennium Reign of Christ which last for a thousand years which brings 7 thousand years of human history which draws similarity with the 7 days of Creation (Genesis 1, Exodus 20:11), on the 6th day, God made man, while on the six thousandth year after the Great Tribulation, Christ will reign over man with a rod of iron (Revelation 2:27, Revelation 20). On the 7th day, God rested, while in the 7 thousandth year, God will reign forever and ever (Revelation 22:5), also number 7 signifies completion or perfection, God works with numbers and patterns for His Glory. This also proves that God created time Himself and He is not bound by it (Revelation 1:8), and can also control it as He pleased (Joshua 10:13, Matthew 24:22). The earth’s date is figured most significantly by radiometric dating which estimate the age of rocks using calculations based on the decay rates of radioactive elements such as uranium, strontium, and potassium. Oversimplifying the problems for this discussion, let me just say that there are many anomalies with dates differing between methods of dating of hundreds of millions of years and even the most enthusiastic believers in radiometric dating do not claim it’s a perfect way to obtain age estimates. One Super-continent Another thing to note is the prevalent theory, that complements the Genesis account, that no matter when the earth was formed it did contain one super-continent called Rodinia, consisting of Gondwanaland, Euramerica, and Siberia, which then the theorists say drifted apart and came together again in another super-continent called Pangea, which then drifted apart again all within the span of a few hundred million years give or take a few hundred million years. Fruits would include apples, citrus fruits, melons, etc. Comment: Before the fall of man due to sin, Adam & Eve and every animals were vegetarians, no one ate meat until Adam & Eve disobeyed God's command and ate the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Expanding universe versus a static universe “14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. “ The stars and other objects in the universe are created in their current positions and distance which over rules using distance as age based on the Big Bang expansion. The Static Universe theory better fits observational data than the Big Bang according to T.C. Van Flandern of the US Naval Observatory and V. S. Troitskii from the Radiophysical Research Institute in Gorky, Russia. Creation of Animal life “20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.” Life from water is a no-brainer, even for a traditional modern scientist. The Hebrew word for “kind” transliterated as “Meen” is not a species as in a type of eagle but a more broad categorization such as a “Family” for example. The belief that creatures were not created but evolved from lower life forms, which is against the Bible, was introduced by the Greek philosopher, Anaximander* around 520 BC. (*‘Does God Believe in Atheists?’ by John Blanchard, Evangelical Press, 2000.) Evolution of life is a concept, although stated differently than the modern theory, in the Indian religion of Hinduism. In fact, in the Rig Veda (the Veda’s are ancient Hindu religious texts), the origin of all life comes from a cosmic egg, sounding similar to the Kabbala’s mustard seed and the Big Bang theory’s Singularity. Traditional modern scientists hold to life on earth either happening by chance on earth by a random mix of the vital elements for life over a long period of time or by the process of Panspermia, having been transported here on the solar winds or by meteorites from another planet. Frances Crick, co discoverer of the DNA helix, in ‘Life Itself: It’s Origin and Nature’, believes that it would have been mathematically impossible for life to have happened on earth by chance and that it must have come from somewhere else. However, geologist, astrobiologist, and paleontologist Peter Ward and astronomer and astrobiologist and NASA scientist Don Brownlee in their book, ‘Rare Earth’, state that the Earth is so unique that it is unlikely that life, as we know it, could exist anywhere else. With so many conflicting theories on the origin of life with so few facts to back them up, what prevents us from accepting the Bible by faith, as our final authority rather than the musings of Frances Crick, Peter Ward or any number of other scientists? If life could not have happened here by chance and it most likely didn’t happen anywhere else by chance then what do they have left? Nothing. Dark Matter versus the Lord Jesus Christ This brings to mind the problem that science has with what keeps the universe together. Since they believe that mass is the basis for gravity they have found that there is not enough mass in the universe to keep it from disintegrating, according to their theories. Now, we know that the universe is held together by the Lord Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:16-17). However, the scientist theorizes that there must be an invisible element called “Dark Matter”, which they say, according to ‘Q is for Quantum’, referenced beforehand, “is revealed by its gravitational influence on the bright stuff”. I think maybe blood was the product of sin and that's what led to the downfall of man now we have sinful blood in us because the Resurrected Christ has no blood, the Bible says flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God, it's like your glorified body doesn't sound like it's got blood in it, so they might have a water circulatory system. But because of their sin ,God did something, God brought a sacrifice and God sacrificed a lamb. Source: King of Kings What I'm going to show you today is all these applications all point to Jesus Christ I find that amazing so most likely a lamb because Jesus is called the Lamb of God which taketh away of the sin of the world. God was instructing Adam and Eve and telling them look because of your sin you should die the wages of sin is death but I'll accept the blood of an innocent on your behalf and God clothed them in the skin, so the first application of blood that I find takes us all the way back to Adam and Eve and reminds us of a lamb and a sacrifice and being clothed that's very important and being clothed with skins. 2.      Passover There was another place where God told the people of Israel to apply blood and this is the second application that I find of blood in the Bible in Exodus chapter 12, this would be at the Passover, so this would be God telling them hey it's time for you to apply the blood and God told them to apply the blood guess where? At a door! Isn't that interesting God says now there's the door of your house and this application of blood is going to be at a door this is the second time God tells them to apply the blood, why is it a door and this is the door of the Passover and this is a feast of Israel so we read in the book of Exodus chapter 12: Exodus 12:21-24 King James Version 21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover. 22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. 23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. 24 And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever. Source: King of Kings So they were saved by the blood and the blood was to go up above and on both sides you know what's interesting me that that reminds me of a cross they're literally doing a sign of a cross when they put the blood up on top and the blood on both sides, and it says you'll be passed over when I see the blood there won't be any judgment falling on you. You'll be saved from death through the blood, now you know who that reminds me of that reminds me of Jesus Christ in John chapter 10 verse 9, Jesus said: John 10:9 King James Version “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” Just as they went in that door applying the blood and stayed inside to be saved, once they were saved they got to come back out, but they were saved by going in to the door and they were saved by the blood which reminds us of Jesus saying He’s the door and His blood saves us. 3.      Tabernacle According to the Old Testament Law there was a thing called “The Tabernacle” and when Israel got their land they'd go into the Tabernacle and the Tabernacle was set up in such a way that in the very back end of the Tabernacle there was the Ark and there was what's called the Ark of the Covenant and if you looked at the Ark it had what's called cherubims and their wings went backwards and their wings went forwards and so they had this Arc and in order to have forgiveness once a year this is what they did: If you were in Israel during that time you could come in any day and give a sacrifice for your sins and the priests would take care of it there but then once a year there was a one sacrifice for all the people for the whole nation and that blood was taken in by the priesthood to the most holy place where the Ark of the Covenant was and he offered that blood right there upon The Mercy Seat and that was a yearly sacrifice for Israel. Leviticus 16:32-34 King James Version 32 And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest's office in his father's stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments: 33 And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation. 34 And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses. John 19:17 King James Version “And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:” So Jesus was crucified on the cross and that's where he shed his blood John 19:34 King James Version “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” The Bible says that he shed every drop. We now come to the Fatherhood of God. The Old Testament Jews were taught to pray, “Our FATHER which art in heaven” (Matt. 6:9), in distinction from the Gentile “gods.” In Matthew 6, when Jesus Christ taught the Old Testament Jew under the law to pray, “Our Father which art in heaven,” He, of course, taught it as the corporate prayer of a nation who had been called out by God as God’s “son.” You will notice that no individual in the Old Testament is ever called “the Son of God” or “a Son of God,” unless they are a created angel, without blood. There is no such thing in the Old Testament as a son of God in the New Testament sense. In the New Testament sense, a son of God is a sinner who has received Jesus Christ. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the SONS OF GOD, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). Notice carefully that in the Old Testament no individual is ever called “a son of God.” The nation of Israel CORPORATELY is called “sons” AND “daughters” (Isa. 43:6) in the Old Testament, and the nation, corporately, as a unit, is “My son, even my firstborn” (Exod. 4:22). But at no time in the Old Testament are INDIVIDUAL ISRAELITES, such as David or Moses, ever referred to as “sons of God.” The “sons of God” in the Old Testament, from Job 1 through Job 38, and Genesis 6, are plainly angelic beings who have neither flesh nor blood, nor could they be born again. Therefore, one should get the distinction immediately between the disciples of Matthew 6:9 (who pray to God as a corporate Father—“Our FATHER which art in heaven”) and the individual Christian, of whom it is said, “ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, FATHER” (Rom. 8:15). The Christian never prays “OUR Father” in individual prayer, but “my Father,” “Holy Father,” and “Father.” Israelites did not have an individual, personal consciousness of sonship to God as “my Father.” Israel, as it stood in the Old Testament, had God as their CORPORATE Father; as a nation chosen of God to be God’s firstborn son. “Our Father” has never been “the Lord’s Prayer,” never will be “the Lord’s Prayer,” and is certainly not the prayer of any Christian who is reading this book. “Our Father” is the prayer Jesus Christ recommended to circumcised Jewish disciples under the law who kept the sabbath, abstained from pork, and worshipped in the temple. “Our Father which art in heaven” (Matt. 6:9) has never been “the Lord’s Prayer.” If it was “the Lord’s Prayer,” the Lord would not have been praying “OUR Father,” because that would have classified Him with sinners. The rea l “Lord’s Prayer” is in John 17, where Christ never calls God the Father “OUR” Father, but “Holy Father.” “Our Father” in Matthew 6:9 is the prayer of a Jewish disciple under the law who is a member of a nation that has God as its Father, corporately. The prayer, then, as it stands, is a prayer given to Old Testament saints under the law and Jewish saints under the law. These Jews are Sabbath-observing, pork-abstaining, temple-worshipping Jews. The Jew had God for his Father in a poetic and national sense. The Fatherhood of God, in the national sense, is used in Psalm 68:5, where it says, “A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.” However, this is true of Israel only in the doctrinal sense of a NATION under God, not individuals. Exodus 4:22 says, “And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn.” So no individual in the Old Testament knew about the Fatherhood of God from an individual consciousness or individual relationship, but rather, as a national relationship. This is why we find the plural —“OUR Father which art in heaven.” Notice in Matthew 6 (if you study the passage carefully), that the Father of Israel (Israel being God’s child) is set in contrast to the Gentiles. As a matter of fact, the careful reader of Matthew 5 and 6 will see that throughout these chapters there is one thing clear: God is not the Father of any Gentile. Now, I realize that may sound like “racial discrimination” to some of you religious bigots, but that is what the Scripture says. And when the Scriptures speak, we are not particularly interested in your convictions anyway. The Bible said in Matthew 6:32, “(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.” Notice that Christ constantly contrasts the Jew as a child of God CORPORATELY (and NATIONALLY) under the Father (the Father of a nation), as opposed to the Gentiles, who had no Father as a group of nations. Israel did not have personal consciousness of sonship, as far as its individuals were concerned. The ones that do have this individual, personal “sonship,” with God as his personal, individual Father, is, of course, the born again child of God in this age who is in Jesus Christ. Modernism reasons, “God is my Father, and a man’s Father wouldn’t harm him, so I will just do what I want, and He will be merciful to me in the end.” This, of course, is presumptuous, false reasoning. The modern “god” of American liberalism will put up with anything. Therefore, the modern “god” of America, as he stands, is a moral and spiritual pervert. Christ never hinted for a moment that God was anybody’s Father, but rather said, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do” (John 8:44). A god who can put up with anything is a spiritual pervert, and the man who invented him is just as perverted as he. A god who loves righteousness, truth, honesty, and loving kindness the same way he loves fornication, bestiality, and adultery is, as we have said before (and will say again), a moral pervert and is nothing but the creation of a man who is perverted. God is the Creator of all, but only the Father of those who are in the “family.” In 2 Corinthians 6:17–18 we read, “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” Notice that the Lord does not say one thing there about receiving anyone as a son or daughter until they come out from the world system and receive Him. There is no reception of the sinner into the family of God until the sinner separates himself from the world by the act of receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Notice the expression, “touch not the unclean thing.” In the Bible, you have clean things and unclean things, dirty things and pure things. There is no such thing in the Bible as this great integrated, amalgamated, synthesized, relative, ecumenical socialism in which there is no difference between good and evil. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:17–18, “and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” Nowhere does God ever imply that He would accept any “son” or “daughter” who is not a separated person, who will not leave the system he is in and will not trust God’s only begotten Son as his Saviour in order to become a child of God. Christ was undefiled, higher than the heavens. He came down to die for sinners, and a man has to trust this Saviour in order to be accepted by God. As a Father, God gives life to his children, so there is no real sonship without the new birth. The Bible says in 1 John 5:12, “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” As a Father, God bestows love on his children: those who are in the family of God. Hence, we read in John 3:36, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life”; but outside the family, “and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” So “outsiders” are called in Ephesians 2:3, “by nature the children of wrath.” In Romans 9:22, they are called “vessels of wrath fitted to destruction”; in Ephesians 2:1, “dead in trespasses and sins”; and in Matthew 23:15, a “child of hell.” It says, “all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isa. 64:6); “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3); “verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity” (Ps. 39:5); and “For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not” (Eccl. 7:20). That’s the difference between the Holy Scriptures and the other oriental “scriptures.” The “scriptures” of other religions are always “mealy mouthed.” The truth is, my friend, with a dead nature and a defiled conscience—a conscience seared with a hot iron—your conscience is not going to take you anywhere. And the truth is, with your self-righteous egotism that you have developed and cultivated over the years (by saying that everything is relative and setting yourself up as the final authority), you have made yourself a god in your own eyes, and you are just as good as in hell with the door shut and the key thrown away. That is the horrible truth of the matter. The reason people go “shopping” for religions around the world, study comparative religions, and compare religions to pick out the one which will least offend them is because Bible Christianity always has been, still is, and always will be the most offensive, negative, destructive, critical abuse with which man has ever had to deal. The same God who said, “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God” (Matt. 5:8), said also, “Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?” (Matt. 23:33). When David said, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Ps. 23:1), that same Shepherd said, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.... for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not” (John 8:44–45). “He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God” (John 8:47). That same God who said that charity covers all sins, “charity envieth not,” charity is kind, charity “is not puffed up” (1 Cor. 13), said also, “all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Rev. 21:8). Now, isn’t that something? That same God with which some of you fish around and mess around in the Sermon on the Mount, Psalm 23, and 1 Corinthians 13 spoke the words found in Matthew 23 and John 9, at which you haven’t even looked. The same God who said to be kind and to “love one another: for love is of God” (1 John 4:7), the One who said that we should love one another and love our neighbor, that same God said also, “Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matt. 25:41). God is a Father who hears and answers prayers of the born again believer, sifting their requests as a true Father would. It is as a Father that God adopts into His family the born again child of God as one of His sons, but there is not a case found anywhere in the Bible, from cover to cover, where God Almighty ever treated as a son a Biblerejecting, Christ-defying, self-righteous, religious egotist. Of those people, He said, “how can ye escape the damnation of hell?” So the Fatherhood of God in the Bible is one thing, and the “Fatherhood of God’’ taught out in the world by religious politicians is, as we say down south, “somethin’ else.” They are no kin. There is nothing similar in the God presented in the word of God and the “god” presented by modern religious liberals. We have studied, very briefly, the Fatherhood of God and have listed the fourteen names of God as He has revealed Himself within the word of God. You will find, too, that if you receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour and trust a sinless, perfect, righteous man instead of a sinner like yourself, God will give you His imputed righteousness (see Rom. 4 and 8), adopt you into His family (see Eph. 1:4–10), and own and confess you as His child. Then you can truly say, not “OUR Father which art in heaven,” but “MY Father.” “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him” (Psa. 103:13), and by receiving Christ, you receive “the Spirit of adoption,” whereby you cry, “Abba, Father” (Rom. 8:15). “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Rom. 8:14). In Bible lands, names have had (and continue to have), significance of meaning in relation to the word of God. In the study of the names of God, we can learn many things about God in His revelation about Himself. God is not the subject of scientific investigation. God is the subject of revelation. If God does not reveal Himself, then no amount of scientific endeavor will ever prove anything about Him. The Lord does not subject Himself to the depraved stupidity of educated sinners. After all, “God is a spirit.” We never have to worry about the scientists, astronomers, physicists, psychiatrists, and physiologists getting ahead of us in matters of knowledge about God. Any man who has the word of God is always considerably ahead of these kinds of people—always has been and, of course, naturally, always will be. In Theology, we are dealing with spiritual things which cannot be seen or tested with a microscope or a telescope—we are dealing with God’s revelation of Himself to man. MAN is the object of GOD’S scrutiny—not vice versa. The names of God found in the Bible are found in three forms: 1. Primary names. 2. Compounds with the Hebrew word, “el.” 3. Compounds with the “tetragrammaton” in them, which is called “Jehovah.” In the Hebrew language, the Massoretic “vowel points” for the word “Jehovah” are “Adonai,” making the word unpronounceable from the standpoint of the English language, since no one speaking the English language has ever heard the name pronounced. The name was considered too sacred to be pronounced, so we have transliterated it properly in the Old Testament as “Jehovah.” This is translated in the King James Bible as “Lord.” Many times it refers to God the Father, and many times, of course, it refers to the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the “Jehovah of Jehovahs,” according to Revelation 19:16 (“LORD OF LORDS,” in the Authorized Version ). The “King of kings” is called the “LORD OF LORDS.” In the primary title, we have one word only, such as “el,” “ela,” or “eloi’’ (or “Jehovah,” “Adon,” “Adonai,” “God,” or “Lord”). Then we have compounds—two words used together —such as “Almighty God,” which is “El Shaddai.” We have “the most high God.” We have “the everlasting God.” And compounded with “Jehovah,” we have “Jehovah Rapha,” “Jehovah Nissi,” and so on. We will now list fourteen names of God used in the Old Testament—first, from the Hebrew Old Testament text, and then, from the English translation. 1. “Elohim.” אֱלֹהִ֖ים (’ĕ·lō·hîm) This name is found in Genesis 2:4, and is the most common name for God in the Old Testament. It is a compound word, and clearly points out the Godhead as Father, Son, and Spirit “Elohim”—a PLURAL word. It can also be translated as “gods” when dealing with the gods that oppose the true God (God the Father), and it is very significant to know that the Lord said, “The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens” (Jer. 10:11). The Lord Himself said, “I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me” (Isa. 45:5). There is no other Saviour. The Christian who has doubts about these things should spend time studying Isaiah chapters 41 through 48. This first name for God, “Elohim,” means, “One who is mighty” or “The Lord who creates.” 2. “El elyon.” עֶלְי֔וֹן (‘el·yō·wn) This name is found in Genesis 14:22, and means, “The One who is supreme” or “The Lord who owns.” 3. “Adonai.” אֲדֹנָ֤י (’ă·ḏō·nāy) This name for God is found in Genesis 15:2 and means, “The Lord our Master” or “The One who is ruling.” 4. “El olam.” עוֹלָֽם׃ (‘ō·w·lām) This name for God is found in Genesis 21:33 and means, “The Lord who reveals Himself” or “The One who is mysterious.” 5. “Jehovahjireh.” This name for God is found in Genesis 22:14 and means, “The Lord who provides.” 6. “Jehovah rapha,” from Exodus 15:26, means, “The One who heals.” 7. “Jehovahnissi,” from Exodus 17:15, means, “The Lord our Banner.” 8. “El Shaddai,” from Genesis 17:1, means, “The All-sufficient One.” 9. “Jehovahshalom,” from Judges 6:24, means “The Lord our Peace.” 10. “Jehovah sabaoth,” from 1 Samuel 1:3, means, “The Lord of hosts.” 11. “Jehovah tsidkenu,” from Jeremiah 23:6, means “THE Lord OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” 12. “Jehovah shammah,” from Ezekiel 48:35, means, “The One close by” or “The One present.” 13. “Jehovah elyon,” from Psalm 7:17, means, “The One who is blessing” or “The Lord our Blesser.” 14. “Jehovah raah,” from Psalm 23:1, means “The Lord our Shepherd.” There are fourteen names for God in the Old Testament. They all apply to Jehovah God and to the Trinity, which is manifest as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They do not represent fourteen different “gods” from outer space, flying around in flying saucers, who don’t have enough sense to blow their nose on a windy day.
