  • The Names of God

In Bible lands, names have had (and continue to have), significance of meaning in relation to the word of God. In the study of the names of God, we can learn many things about God in His revelation about Himself. God is not the subject of scientific investigation. God is the subject of revelation. If God does not reveal Himself, then no amount of scientific endeavor will ever prove anything about Him. The Lord does not subject Himself to the depraved stupidity of educated sinners. After all, “God is a spirit.” We never have to worry about the scientists, astronomers, physicists, psychiatrists, and physiologists getting ahead of us in matters of knowledge about God. Any man who has the word of God is always considerably ahead of these kinds of people—always has been and, of course, naturally, always will be. In Theology, we are dealing with spiritual things which cannot be seen or tested with a microscope or a telescope—we are dealing with God’s revelation of Himself to man. MAN is the object of GOD’S scrutiny—not vice versa. The names of God found in the Bible are found in three forms: 1. Primary names. 2. Compounds with the Hebrew word, “el.” 3. Compounds with the “tetragrammaton” in them, which is called “Jehovah.” In the Hebrew language, the Massoretic “vowel points” for the word “Jehovah” are “Adonai,” making the word unpronounceable from the standpoint of the English language, since no one speaking the English language has ever heard the name pronounced. The name was considered too sacred to be pronounced, so we have transliterated it properly in the Old Testament as “Jehovah.” This is translated in the King James Bible as “Lord.” Many times it refers to God the Father, and many times, of course, it refers to the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the “Jehovah of Jehovahs,” according to Revelation 19:16 (“LORD OF LORDS,” in the Authorized Version ). The “King of kings” is called the “LORD OF LORDS.” In the primary title, we have one word only, such as “el,” “ela,” or “eloi’’ (or “Jehovah,” “Adon,” “Adonai,” “God,” or “Lord”). Then we have compounds—two words used together —such as “Almighty God,” which is “El Shaddai.” We have “the most high God.” We have “the everlasting God.” And compounded with “Jehovah,” we have “Jehovah Rapha,” “Jehovah Nissi,” and so on. We will now list fourteen names of God used in the Old Testament—first, from the Hebrew Old Testament text, and then, from the English translation. 1. “Elohim.” אֱלֹהִ֖ים (’ĕ·lō·hîm) This name is found in Genesis 2:4, and is the most common name for God in the Old Testament. It is a compound word, and clearly points out the Godhead as Father, Son, and Spirit “Elohim”—a PLURAL word. It can also be translated as “gods” when dealing with the gods that oppose the true God (God the Father), and it is very significant to know that the Lord said, “The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens” (Jer. 10:11). The Lord Himself said, “I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me” (Isa. 45:5). There is no other Saviour. The Christian who has doubts about these things should spend time studying Isaiah chapters 41 through 48. This first name for God, “Elohim,” means, “One who is mighty” or “The Lord who creates.” 2. “El elyon.” עֶלְי֔וֹן (‘el·yō·wn) This name is found in Genesis 14:22, and means, “The One who is supreme” or “The Lord who owns.” 3. “Adonai.” אֲדֹנָ֤י (’ă·ḏō·nāy) This name for God is found in Genesis 15:2 and means, “The Lord our Master” or “The One who is ruling.” 4. “El olam.” עוֹלָֽם׃ (‘ō·w·lām) This name for God is found in Genesis 21:33 and means, “The Lord who reveals Himself” or “The One who is mysterious.” 5. “Jehovahjireh.” This name for God is found in Genesis 22:14 and means, “The Lord who provides.” 6. “Jehovah rapha,” from Exodus 15:26, means, “The One who heals.” 7. “Jehovahnissi,” from Exodus 17:15, means, “The Lord our Banner.” 8. “El Shaddai,” from Genesis 17:1, means, “The All-sufficient One.” 9. “Jehovahshalom,” from Judges 6:24, means “The Lord our Peace.” 10. “Jehovah sabaoth,” from 1 Samuel 1:3, means, “The Lord of hosts.” 11. “Jehovah tsidkenu,” from Jeremiah 23:6, means “THE Lord OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” 12. “Jehovah shammah,” from Ezekiel 48:35, means, “The One close by” or “The One present.” 13. “Jehovah elyon,” from Psalm 7:17, means, “The One who is blessing” or “The Lord our Blesser.” 14. “Jehovah raah,” from Psalm 23:1, means “The Lord our Shepherd.” There are fourteen names for God in the Old Testament. They all apply to Jehovah God and to the Trinity, which is manifest as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They do not represent fourteen different “gods” from outer space, flying around in flying saucers, who don’t have enough sense to blow their nose on a windy day. Hope this may be a blessing to the readers. How to go to Heaven? Find out in the short video below. • Reasons that the New Testament Documents are Reliable.

Source: Irrefutable Proof Christianity is True: A Summary of the Works of Norman Geisler by Shawn Nelson It will be argued here that the New Testament documents are historically reliable because the events were accurately recorded by reliable witnesses and the manuscripts were accurately copied and preserved. New Testament Manuscripts In terms of sheer number of manuscript copies, the New Testament is in a category by itself. It is the best textually supported book from antiquity. More Manuscripts than Any Other Ancient Works We have 5,800 partial and complete copies of the original Greek New Testament manuscripts dating as far back as the first and second centuries. These were translated early into Syriac, Coptic, Arabic, Latin and other languages, giving us another 19,000 copies of the text. Furthermore, we have 36,289 quotations by the early church fathers that we can use to reconstruct the New Testament if we had to (every book and nearly every chapter). No Other Ancient Work Comes Close Nothing else in the ancient world comes close to the New Testament’s manuscript attestation. The second most documented ancient work after the Bible is Homer’s Illiad with a mere 643 copies. Beyond that, we have 200 copies of the works of Demosthenes, twenty copies of Tacitus’ Annals, ten good copies of Julius Ceasar’s Galic War, eight copies of the works of Herodotus, seven of Pliny, and seven of Plato. It’s quite common for works of antiquity to survive on only a handful of manuscript copies. Source: https://www.thebeehive.live/blog/can-we-trust-the-new-testament-documents-part-3 New Testament Manuscripts Are Earlier No other book in the ancient world has a narrower time gap between original composition and its copies. Most other ancient books survive on manuscripts that were copied about a thousand years after they were composed. Works like the Odyssey are a rare exception, with one copy made five hundred years after the original. In contrast, the New Testament gap is not one thousand, five hundred, or even a few hundred years, but less than twenty-five to one hundred and fifty years. The earliest undisputed New Testament manuscript is the John Ryland Papyri (P52) dated 117-138 AD. Its discovery location in Egypt suggests it had been in circulation for quite some time, placing the original date of composition in the first century AD. The Bodmer Papyri is a complete copy of the New Testament dating around 200 AD, just 100 years after the originals. If a person rejects the New Testament on the grounds of manuscript evidence, they would have to reject all other works of ancient antiquity also. What About Manuscript Errors? Critics often point to the variations between manuscripts as proof that the record is not accurate. However, even the biggest New Testament critics like Bart Ehrman admit that none of these copyist errors are theologically significant, but are simply slips of the pen, accidental omissions, misspelled words or inadvertent additions (Ehrman, Misquoting Jesus, 2007, 55). To illustrate the types of “errors” we are talking about, compare copies of a message: “YO# HAVE WON $1,000,000”, “YOU HAVE #ON $1,000,000”, and “YOU HAVE WON $#,000,000”. Even though there are copyist errors, the message comes through and we can accurately reconstruct the original message with certainty. Critics have exaggerated the number of such errors by counting copies of mistakes. But in reality, with very few exceptions these mistakes are minor and do not have any significant impact on the text. In fact, multiple scholars have concluded independently that 98.33% to 99.9% of our manuscripts are free from significant errors whatsoever, which is remarkable considering the amount of manuscripts we have. Scholar Tests the Reliability of the Bible and Finds THIS Dr. Daniel Wallace, one of the leading New Testament manuscript scholars, reveals whether or not we can trust the New Testament of the Bible. The Historicity of the New Testament Some doubt the Jesus of the New Testament. Others go so far as to say that Jesus never even existed and that everything written about him is a forgery. How does this stack up to the evidence? Based On Eyewitness Testimony The apostle John repeatedly pointed to the fact that he was an eyewitness of the life, crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus from the dead (John 19:35; 21:24; 1 John 1:1). Likewise, Peter claimed to be an eyewitness and that they were merely teaching what they had seen (Acts 2:32; 4:19-20; 10:39-40; 2 Peter 1:16). Paul challenged those who doubted the resurrection to talk to the 500 witnesses who had seen Jesus alive after the resurrection, the majority of whom were still alive (1 Cor. 15:3-8). Luke was diligent to base his accounts (the books of Luke and Acts) on eyewitness testimony (Luke 1:1-4). There Were Nine Authors Documenting Testimony There were nine different authors (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Peter, James, Jude, and the writer of Hebrews) of twenty seven books. All of these authors were either direct eyewitnesses of the events or were contemporaries of eyewitnesses. Legal Experts Confirm the Testimony As Credible Modern legal experts (see works of Simon Greenleaf, Thomas Sherlock, Frank Morrison, John Montgomery) have confirmed that the eyewitness testimony in the New Testament is authentic, and that any impartial person in a court of law would have no reason to doubt the credibility of the testimony. Jesus On Trial | Would The Bible Hold Up In A Court Of Law? Dr. Simon Greenleaf decided to put Jesus’ resurrection on trial by examining the evidence. Greenleaf helped Harvard Law School gain widespread credibility. He also wrote the three-volume legal masterpiece A Treatise on the Law of Evidence, which has been called the “greatest single authority in the entire literature of legal procedure.” The U.S. judicial system today still relies on rules of evidence established by Greenleaf. Archeology Confirms the Testimony Not one archaeological discovery has ever conflicted with the Bible. On the contrary, there have been many archaeological discoveries that support it. We know the locations of places like Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Bethany, the Jordan River and the Sea of Galilee. We have also found artifacts like a coin of Caesar Augustus, inscriptions regarding people like King Herod, Pilate, and Caiaphas, and places like the synagogue in Capernaum, the pool of Siloam and the steps of the temple. We’ve even discovered examples of crucifixion and tombs (including one that is empty!). Expedition Bible brings you the teaching of Joel Kramer, a biblical archaeologist and former expeditioner in his younger years. Joel teaches by "taking you into the Bible," showing you Biblical sites, and giving you context, evidence, and experience to understand Scripture more profoundly. Watch, learn, and be encouraged as Joel lays out the evidence for the historicity, authenticity, and authority of the Word of God. The Dating of the New Testament Critics argue that the New Testament was written too late, and therefore could not have been written by eyewitnesses or their contemporaries, and that it cannot be trusted as a historically reliable document. Critics Need More Time For Myths And Errors Critics attempt to put as much time as they can between the writing of the New Testament documents and when the events actually occurred. More time allows for more mistakes in oral tradition and for mythologies to develop. Argument for Early Date for Luke/Acts Noted Roman historian Colin Hemer argues for an early date of AD 60 to 63 for Acts based on what we do not see: (1) there’s no mention of the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70, (2) the Jewish war of AD 66, (3) persecutions by Nero in late 60s or (4) the death of James in AD 62. Since the Gospel of Luke was written before Acts (Acts 1:1), this also dates Luke’s Gospel before AD 60/63, less than thirty years after Jesus’ resurrection. Paul’s Early Letters Corroborate Gospel Details The majority of New Testament scholars and critics accept that Paul wrote Romans, Galatians, 1 and 2 Corinthians, and that these books were written between 55 and 61 AD. That means that in less than two decades after the events of Jesus took place (30 to 33 AD), we have confirmation of at least twenty seven details of the gospels such as Jesus was Jewish (Gal. 3:16), he was descended from David (Rom. 1:3), he was born of a virgin (Gal. 4:4), etc. Most important is Paul’s confirmation of the burial and resurrection of Jesus from the dead and the fact that he appeared to more than 500 witnesses in 1 Corinthians 15:3-7, composed in 54/55 AD, just twenty two years after Jesus’ resurrection. Related: Defending Inerrancy: Affirming the Accuracy of Scripture for a New Generation: The Confirmation By The Accepted Epistles of Paul Critics Beginning to Accept These Early Dates More and more critics are beginning to accept these early dates. John A. T. Robinson, leader of the “death of God” movement revised his dates saying all books were written between AD 40 and 70, with Matthew as early as AD 40, Mark AD 45, Luke AD 57 and John AD 40. William F. Albright emphatically adds that there is no longer a basis for accepting any book beyond AD 80 (Albright, Recent Discoveries in Bible Lands, 136). Related: Redating the NEW TESTAMENT By John A.T. Robinson, Prepared by Paul Ingram and Todd Dennis No Signs of Mythological Embellishment There is good evidence for the authentic nature of the New Testament documents. (1) There are differences between narratives, yet the writers did not attempt to harmonize their stories. (2) The writers included material that made Jesus look bad (e.g., his own family thought he was insane). (3) They did not try to remove difficult passages. (4) They included self-incriminating information (they were slow to understand, fell asleep when they should have been praying, denied the Lord). (5) They included difficult sayings of Jesus (deny yourself, suffer, eat His flesh and blood). (6) They clearly reported the words of Jesus by distinguishing their own words from those of Jesus. (7) They didn’t deny their testimony even when threatened with death. (8) They claimed repeatedly that they were eyewitnesses (or in Luke’s case had talked to eyewitnesses). (9) The reporting that women had witnessed the resurrection before men. (10) They challenged their listeners to check the facts for themselves from other eyewitnesses. (11) Something significant must have happened for them to seemingly overnight discard long-held Jewish traditions (e.g., worshipping on the Sabbath and eating pork). (12) They mention too much detail (over thirty historical people) for it to be myth. Too Much Accurate Detail To Be A Fabrication Historians have noted the high degree of accuracy in the book of Acts (See works of Adrian Sherwin-White, Thomas Arnold and Colin Hemer). Even a casual reader of Luke 3:1-2 can see the high level of detail as Luke ties the beginning of John the Baptist’s ministry to no less than seven people’s public office. Furthermore, Luke is accurate in his frequent description of routes, places, officials, customs, idioms and practices of his day, many details of which would only be known to first-hand eyewitnesses. This is significant because Luke also wrote the Gospel of Luke and claimed that it was as accurate of account as he could possibly make it (Luke 1:1-4), basing it on eyewitness testimony. Conclusion: The New Testament is a Reliable, Accurate Testimony Because a theistic God exists, miracles are possible. Since miracles are possible, they can be used to confirm that truth claims come from God. The historical writings of the New Testament contain eyewitness testimony of miracles and corresponding truth claims. These writings can be trusted. Now I will prove from these documents that its central figure, Jesus Christ, not only rose from the dead, but is God. Therefore, whatever, Jesus says is truth. And anything opposed is false. Hope this may be a blessing to the readers. How to go to Heaven? Find out in the short video below. • A Virtuous Woman Like Ruth

Proverbs 31:10,30 King James Version 10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. The Book of Ruth is named for the Moabite woman who commits herself to the Israelite people by an oath to her mother-in-law Naomi and becomes the great-grandmother of David by marriage to Boaz of Bethlehem. Thus she is an ancestor in the messianic line that leads to Jesus (Mt 1:5). The book portrays the love and loyalty of human beings in working their way through tragic circumstances to participation in the community of the faithful people of God. –Bible Gateway Ruth 1:16 King James Version 16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: 17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. Even though Naomi was Ruth’s mother-in-law and not blood related, Ruth remained loyal to her mother-in-law after the death of Ruth’s husband Mahlon, one of Naomi’s two sons. She also stayed faithful to God and followed Naomi all the way back to her mother-in-law’s homeland, Bethlehem (Ruth 1:22). Ruth 2:11-12 King James Version 11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore. 12 The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust. Ruth’s loyalty to her mother-in-law and her hard work are commended by Boaz and is blessed and rewarded by God. Ruth 3:7-11 King James Version 7 And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn: and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down. 8 And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet. 9 And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman. 10 And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich. 11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman. In Verse 8, Laying at another’s feet shows a gesture of humility, we go to Luke 7 to see another example of this gesture. Luke 7:37-50 King James Version 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. 39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. 40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. 41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. 42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? 43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. 44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. 45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. 46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. 47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. 48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. 49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? 50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace. In Ruth 3:8 – “And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.” Using Treasury of Scripture Knowledge Concordance Source: Ruth 3:9 - Treasury of Scripture Knowledge Bible Concordance Online (biblestudytools.com) spread therefore: Hebrew "spread thy wing;" the emblem of protection; and a metaphor taken from the young of fowls, which run under the wings of their mother from birds of prey. Even to the present day, when a Jew marries a woman, he throws the skirts of his talith over her, to signify that he has taken her under his protection. Eze. 16:8 We can draw parallel from Ruth 3:9 to Mark chapter 5, where a woman who has a blood-related illness has strong faith that she will be healed just by touching Jesus Christ’s garment. Mark 5:25-34 King James Version 25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, 26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, 27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. 28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. 29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? 31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? 32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. 33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. 34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. Using Treasury of Scripture Knowledge Concordance Source: Ruth 3:9 - Treasury of Scripture Knowledge Bible Concordance Online (biblestudytools.com) for thou art a near kinsman: or, one that has right to redeem. You’ve seen that there are similarities with Ruth 3:9 with Mark 5:25-34, in regards to redemption. In regards to marriage according to the Mosaic Law, if a man died without having a child from his wife then the widowed wife will marry her husband’s brother. Deuteronomy 25:5 King James Version “If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her.” Naomi’s sons Mahlon (Ruth’s husband) and Chilion (Orpah’s husband) both died, so the next candidate for Ruth to marry will be the kinsmen of Elimelech (Naomi’s deceased husband), and the Bible revealed in Ruth chapter 2 that Boaz is Elimelech’s next kinsmen and confirmed in Ruth 3:12. And in Ruth 3, verses 10-11, this draws parallel in Luke 7 passage earlier where a woman is praised because for her virtue. Lastly in Ruth 4, Boaz marries Ruth and they bare a son named Obed which is the father of Jesse and the grand-father of King David. Do most people hold the same values of love and loyalty as Ruth today? Studies show that the infidelity gender gap is narrowing. By Cathy Meyer Updated on 06/09/23 09:00AM Source: https://www.brides.com/reasons-women-cheat-in-relationships-1103341 Although social norms and Hollywood portrayals often depict men as the sex more likely to cheat, studies show that the infidelity gender gap is narrowing—especially among younger people. Take, for instance, a research study out of The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, which found that among participants with an average age of 31, "there were no significant gender differences in the report of infidelity (23 percent of men vs. 19 percent of women)." Then there's the National Opinion Research Center’s General Social Survey (GSS) from 2018, which found that women between the ages of 18 and 29 were slightly more likely to cheat than men of the same age group (11 percent vs. 10 percent). Further data out of the GSS showed that the percentage of women who cheat rose nearly 40 percent from 1990 to 2010 while men's adultery rate held steady at 21 percent. For us this is no surprise, the Bible foretold of the rise of apostacy as we approach the last days. Matthew 24:12 King James Version “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” 2 Timothy 3:1-6 King James Version 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Source: https://financesonline.com/divorce-statistics/ 10 Of the Biggest Reasons Women File For Divorce by YourTango | July 28, 2015 Source: https://www.self.com/story/reasons-for-divorce According to the National Center for Health Statistics, women file for divorce two-thirds of the time. A more amazing statistic is that when the couple is college educated, divorce initiated by the wife is a whopping 90 percent! What's more interesting is that for the past 100 years the primary filer has been the woman. The divorce rate began climbing at a drastic rate in the 70s. This statistic correlates with the fact that beginning in 1969, states began adopting "no fault" divorce laws and by 1985, all states had such a law in place. The "no-fault" divorce allowed a couple to divorce due to irreconcilable differences. Prior to these laws, adultery or extreme cruelty required proof to receive approval for a divorce. Due to many women's beliefs, they still struggle with who they are and what roles in society they ought to fill. It's an inner struggle that often leads a woman to put impossible demands on herself. She wants it all and somewhere inside of her feels that she has to do it all. The rise of divorce, separation, and cohabitation in the Philippines by Jeofrey B. Abalos | July 10, 2017 Source: https://www.niussp.org/family-and-households/the-rise-of-divorce-separation-and-cohabitation-in-the-philippines/ Most Filipinos who wish to end their marriage resort to informal separation. Ideally, couples need to apply for a legal separation that provides them with legal sanction to live separately, but in reality most couples, especially the poor, just live separately without going through this legal procedure. Although most Filipinos still value marriage, the proportion who separate from their spouse, both legally and informally, is increasing. Figure 1 shows that the numbers of annulment and nullity cases filed at the Office of the Solicitor-General (OSG) has increased from 4,520 in 2001 to 11,135 in 2014. Census and survey data also show a similar trend. What are the Characteristics of a Virtuous Woman according to the Bible? Proverbs 31:10-31 King James Version 10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. 16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. 17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. 18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. 19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. 20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. 22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. 24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. 25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. 29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. 30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. And we see these characteristics in Ruth, she shows what a woman should aspire to be. ═══════ ༺ ♰ ༻ ═══════ Proverbs 12:4 King James Version "A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones." ══════════════════ Hope this may be a blessing to the readers. • How to Pray as Jesus Christ taught us to Pray using A.C.T.S.

Matthew 6:5-13 King James Version 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Jesus Christ in this passage is teaching us how to pray the right way. First find a place where you can be alone and not out in the open for God knows the intentions of your heart when you pray whether it’s genuine or just for show. Jeremiah 17:10 King James Version “I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” Second do not use vain repetitions while praying. Let’s look at the meaning of the word “vain” in the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary https://webstersdictionary1828.com/Dictionary/vain Vain [adjective] -          Empty; worthless; having no substance, value or importance. 1 Peter 1:18. 1 Peter 1:18 King James Version “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;” Which self-proclaimed Christian religion now focuses more on the tradition of men rather than the word of God (King James Bible)? And why are their prayers empty and worthless? For one thing is those prayers don’t focus on God like the Catholic Novenas and the Rosary. Does the Bible teach we should pray to dead saints and Mary? No! The Bible teaches that we should send our prayers to Jesus Christ as He is our sole mediator to God. 1 Timothy 2:5 King James Version “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” There are other verses in the Bible that points to Roman Catholicism as following the traditions of men Jeremiah 7:18 King James Version “The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.” Mark 7:7-9 King James Version 7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. Let’s check all the boxes shall we? ☑ The fathers kindle the fire ☑ Feast for the Queen of Heaven ☑ Feasts to other gods ☑ Washing of pots and cups ☑ Rejecting the commandment of God by making graven images or any likeness (statues) in Heaven or in earth, at the same time bowing and praying to these images Exodus 20:4-5 King James Version 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; What does the Bible says about those who follow the traditions of men and their fathers rather than the words of God? Matthew 15:8 King James Version “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” The third part starting in verse 9, Jesus Christ showed us how to pray as He said “After this manner…” not meaning we should repeat the same prayer as He did per word. There are four parts to the prayer and it shows in what way and manner our prayers should be so God can hear us. This way of praying is called A.C.T.S. (A = Adoration, C = Confession, T = Thanksgiving, S = Supplication) Adoration “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” Start your prayers with praise. Praise God for who He is. Worship him and acknowledge His greatness. This step is important not only to shower God with praise but to align your heart with His. Praise keeps your eyes fixed on God. Starting with a heart full of worship reminds you just who you’re praying to and what great power He has to answer your prayers. 1 Chronicles 29:10-13 King James Version 10 Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. 11 Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. 12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. 13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. Psalm 25:8 King James Version “Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.” Psalm 63:3-4 King James Version 3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. 4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. Revelation 4:8 King James Version “And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.” Revelation 5:12 King James Version “Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.” Confession “And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” Tell God you’re sorry for where you’ve fallen short, where your actions haven’t lived up to God’s expectations, where haven’t done something you should have. Then, ask God’s forgiveness and help to do better next time. 2 Chronicles 7:14 King James Version “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Psalm 25:11 King James Version “For thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.” Jeremiah 31:34 King James Version “And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” 1 John 1:4-9 King James Version 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. 5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Thanksgiving “For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever” This is a time for prayers of thanks for what God has done. Thank Him for salvation, the many blessings in your life, protection, provision, open doors, opportunities, and His gifts to man. 1 Chronicles 16:34 King James Version “O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 100:4-5 King James Version 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 King James Version 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Philippians 4:6-7 King James Version 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Supplication “Give us this day our daily bread… Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” Prayers of requests. This is the time to ask God for His divine help to meet your needs or the needs of others, solve problems, work in someone's life, etc. Ephesians 6:18 King James Version “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” 1 Timothy 2:1-4 King James Version 1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 1 John 5:12-15 King James Version 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. Please note as says in 1 John 5:12-15, in order for God to grant our petition or the very least hear our prayers you first need to receive the free gift of Salvation, otherwise your prayer requests will never reach Him. 1 John 4:5-6 King James Version 5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. You end your prayer by sending it to Jesus Christ in this manner "In this I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, my LORD and Saviour, Amen." because Jesus Christ is our mediator and the one that intercedes for us to GOD. John 14:6 King James Version "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." ═══════ ༺ ♰ ༻ ═══════ Colossians 4:2 King James Version "Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;" ══════════════════ Hope this may be a blessing to the readers. • The Personality of God

This chapter deals with the personality of God. Personality, of course, is characterized by a being possessing knowledge, feeling, and will power. An idol is devoid of personality, for an idol neither knows, feels, nor responds. Our God is an individual, who is living and has definite personality characteristics. God is a person, not an influence or an unseen force or power like electricity. Jeremiah 10:10 says, “But the Lord is the true God, he is the living God” Acts 14:15 says, “Turn from these vanities unto the living God.” First Thessalonians 1:9 says the converts “turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.” We read in 2 Chronicles 16:9, “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect.” God’s Incommunicable Attributes God has some natural attributes which can be either communicable or incommunicable. First of all, we will discuss God’s incommunicable attributes. By incommunicable, we mean that God Himself, as a spirit and as a person, has certain innate qualities which cannot be transmitted to man; which a man by his natural ability or reasoning or senses cannot grasp. This is why the unsaved man has a tendency always to become a self-righteous agnostic, or a self-righteous humanist. Since he cannot grasp God with the mind, he figures either there is no God or you can’t get to know Him. God has certain natural attributes which have a quality about them that are uniquely His. God possesses certain basic qualifications. 1) He is eternal; we refer to this as His infinity. 2) He is unchangeable; we refer to this as His immutability. 3) He possesses all power; He’s omnipotent. 4) We speak of God, too, as being present everywhere at the same time. This is called omnipresence or, as the classical theologians call it, “immensity.” 5) He has all-knowledge, which we call omniscience. In short, God within Himself, as an intelligent living being—the Author and Creator of all life and the source of all life—is infinite, immutable, all-powerful, allpresent, and all-knowing. God Is Eternal First of all, God is eternal. To be the true God, He must have neither beginning nor ending. He must be eternal. He must be more eternal than the universe or the heavens, which the pagan Greek philosophers thought were eternal, because they believed in what we call “the eternity of material.” They believed that material things were eternal. We will discuss more about the belief that material things are eternal when we get into the doctrines of anthropology and creation, but of course, any man knows that it takes a great deal more faith to believe in the eternity of matter (as all dialectical materialists believe) than it does to believe in the eternity of a spiritual Being. All right, God is eternal. An idol is disqualified, for it was made by someone, thus it had a beginning. In Psalm 90:2 we read, “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” In Genesis 1:1 we read, “In the beginning God.” God has always existed. God Is Unchangeable God is unchangeable. God is so constituted that He cannot change. Malachi 3:6 says, “For I am the Lord, I change not.” James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” God is unchangeable. He says, “The Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent” (1 Sam. 15:29). Once God has said something, He is going to do it. It is true that the Lord may change His mind about a circumstance that is flexible about which He has laid down no definite decree, such as the destruction of the earth in Genesis 6, 7 and 8, but where God has spoken and committed Himself to writing (and there are more than eleven hundred promises in writing on which you can get you hands), He does not change or repent. “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance,” Romans 11:29. God Is Omnipotent In God’s incommunicable attributes is the attribute of all-powerfulness oromnipotence. If He lacked this, He would not be God. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” That is creative power. He said, “Let there be light: and there was light.” The spoken word of God carries a power and authority to it far beyond the decrees of any church that ever was or ever will be. “The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword,” and when God said, “Let there be light,” “there was light.” Man cannot speak rain into existence. Man cannot speak lightning or thunder into existence. Man cannot speak life into existence. God can! Man makes things out of existing material. God creates out of nonexistent materials objects that are good and perfect. Notice in Genesis 1:4, “It was good.” In Job 42:2, Job says, “I know that thou canst do every thing.” The Psalmist said, “For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast,” Psalm 33:9. And speaking to Jeremiah, the Lord said in Jeremiah 32:27, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” Certainly not. God Is Omnipresent God’s omnipresence is one of His attributes. We call this in classical scholastic theology God’s “immensity.” That is, He is present everywhere at one and the same time. Notice Psalm 139:7–10, where David said, “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me.” The Lord said to Jeremiah, “Am I a God at hand...and not a God afar off?” (Jer. 23:23). The same Lord knows where every hair of your head is, and the same Lord watches the sparrow fall to the ground; Christ said He did. God Is Omniscient The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 16:9, “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.” Nothing is hid from the Lord. He’s omniscient, allknowing. The Bible says in Job 34:22, “There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.” Job confessed, “No thought can be withholden from thee” (Job 42:2). And Isaiah said in chapter 40:28, “There is no searching of his understanding.” The Bible says in Matthew 12:36, “Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” God's Communicable Attributes By “communicable attributes” of God we mean those particular qualities in God that He can convey to a man so that a man can understand them. There is no way on earth the finite mind can grasp God’s immensity or His eternity or His immutability. Try as we can, we cannot imagine a Being who has always lived and always will live. This is the educated man’s alibi for rejecting God: since he, the finite brain, cannot grasp or understand the essence of God; therefore, God doesn’t exist. It is like a twoyear-old who can’t explain the rattles on a rattlesnake, so he pretends that rattlesnakes don’t exist, and he goes out and plays in a rattlesnake den. It is stupidity, and whether it’s educated or uneducated stupidity, it amounts to the same thing. Here we deal with God’s communicable attributes. When we say “communicable” we mean that God can communicate them—they can get across. We hear a lot today about “sharing” and “communicating.” We hear a great deal about it from people who do not communicate with God, and God does not communicate with them. (Very unfortunate, but that is sometimes how it goes.) Now, these are things that God has communicated to man that man can grasp. God Is Holy The first of these is that God is holy. We can understand that if only by analogy. We can understand that we are sinful, and we are not in the least like God. We can understand that by studying God’s dealing with nations and with people. We can understand it by studying God’s dealing with sin. We do not have to have a Bible necessarily, although it is helpful in understanding God’s attitude about holiness. The Bible says, “Be ye holy; for I am holy,” 1 Peter 1:16. And we read in Exodus 34:14, ”For the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” Notice in particular Exodus 15:11, “Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders;” and also Isaiah 6:3, “And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” However, you wouldn’t have to have these passages to know that God is no respecter of persons and that God deals with sin God Is Righteous God’s next communicable attribute is His righteousness. God is righteous. In Psalm 116:5 we read, “Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.” And in Ezra 9:15, “O Lord God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.” Among the many passages dealing with righteousness in the book of Romans, we find the great passage in Romans 10:3–4, which says, “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth.” The righteousness of God is the great theme of the book of Romans. Romans 9:14 says, “Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.” Notice also Romans 8:10, “But the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” Righteousness. That is the great theme of the book of Romans. Romans 6:18, “Ye became the servants of righteousness.” Romans 6:19, “Your members servants to righteousness.” Romans 6:20, “Ye were free from righteousness.” Notice this thing over and over again. Romans 6:13, “As instruments of righteousness unto God.” Notice how it keeps cropping up and cropping up and cropping up throughout the book of Romans. Romans 5:21, “Might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life.” Romans 5:7, “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die.” And over and over and over. Notice in Romans 3 how righteousness keeps coming out. Romans 3:26, “To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness.” Romans 3:21, “But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested.” This is what the unsaved man doesn’t want—”the righteousness of God.” What a man wants is his own righteousness, and the Bible says in Isaiah 64:6, “All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.” Even after a man is a saint, a saved sinner, the Holy Spirit has to help him produce what we call “fine linen” which the Bible says is “the righteousness of saints.” God is Merciful God is merciful. We know this about God. This is a communicable attribute. God can communicate His mercy to man. Notice Psalm 103:8, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.” There isn’t anyone reading this booklet who hasn’t experienced the mercy of God. Whether you recognize this or not, or acknowledge it or not, is beside the point. The point is, it has been dispensed to you. There has been sometime in your life when you said, “God be merciful to me” or “God help me” or “God have mercy on me” or “God get me out of this,” and God helped you and got you out. The fact that you may have reciprocated by rejecting His Son is your personal matter, not mine. The fact that you may have reciprocated by studying geology fifteen years to disprove Genesis 1 is your funeral, not mine. But God is merciful; His tender mercy is over all His works. The Bible tells us in Psalm 103:8, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.” Psalm 86:15 reveals this great truth about God, “But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.” One of the great attributes of God is His longsuffering (His putting up with sinners, His mercifulness to bad, wicked men), mentioned in Numbers 14:18 and again in Exodus 34:6–7. He “sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust,” Jesus Christ says in Matthew 5:45, telling us that often the mercy of God is mistaken for salvation. “God Is Jealous” Nahum 1:2 says the Lord God is a jealous God. Now, it is hard for the unsaved man to figure this out. As a matter of fact, I Corinthians 2:14 says, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” It is impossible for an unsaved man to figure out how God—if He is God and perfect— could be jealous. But this is stupidity on the part of the blinded sinner in failing to realize that every attribute of man is magnified a thousand times in God. After all, if the Bible is correct (and we say it with no doubt in our own mind that it is), then God made man in His own image, and if this is true, then the attributes which can be found in man will be found also in man’s Creator. Every attribute manifested by human beings will be magnified a million times so that it would be impossible for you to imagine the intensity. No man reading this book can imagine the agony Jesus Christ felt when he knelt in the Garden of Gethsemane and contemplated becoming sin, turning into sin for sinful man, becoming a curse under the Father’s wrath, after He Himself, the Lord Jesus Christ, had never had an impure thought one time in His life. Jealousy is a genuine motive. It was given to guard things that are right. When Paul spoke of his jealousy in 2 Corinthians 11:2 he said, “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy.” When the Bible says, “The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy,” in James 4:5, it means the Holy Spirit is concerned about His private property which belongs to Him. You have to face the Biblical facts: God can be jealous! God will not tolerate His children messing with the world! God loves His children and wants them for His own. “God is merciful.” “God is a consuming fire” (His wrath) and “God is a jealous God.” Joshua 24:19 says, “And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the Lord: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.” God is Love All right, “God is love,” l John 4:8, but love is not God. First John 3:16 tells us God is love as does John 3:16. “God so loved the world, that he gave” [past tense] “his only begotten Son.” “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us” [past tense] “and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:10). All the real love that God ever had to show for this world was manifested at Calvary. “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy,” Romans 9:16. God has chosen to show mercy to the unregenerate world at Calvary, and if you want God’s love and God’s mercy you go to Calvary; there you will find God’s wrath and God’s blood in the same place. As a matter of fact, it’s called “God’s blood” in Acts 20:28. Love and mercy show up in the same place where God’s wrath against sin is manifest and God’s jealousy for righteousness is manifest: at a painful, shameful, wooden, nail-pierced, whip-marked, bloodstained Cross. God has showed you mercy, and God has showed you the place where He had mercy upon you, and until you come to that place, the sword of God’s wrath has its point against you. God will not put away that sword unless you come to the place where He put it away in the helpless, bleeding back of the “Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). “God Is Faithful” Concerning God’s faithfulness, notice Deuteronomy 7:9, “Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.” Deuteronomy 34:4 says, “And the Lord said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither.” We have a great promise for the Christian in the New Testament in regard to God’s faithfulness. First Corinthians 1: 8, 9 says that God will “confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” We may not be faithful, but thank God, “God is faithful” and will “confirm us” unto the end. Notice Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Conclusion God is compassionate; 1 Kings 8:23, “And he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart.” “God is true”; Jeremiah 10:10, “But the Lord is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.” God is uncorruptible; Romans 1:23, “And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.” “God is gracious”; Psalm 116:5, “Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.” God is invisible; 1 Timothy 1:17, “Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.” God is upright; Psalm 25:8, “Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.” God is perfect; Matthew 5:48, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” And to wind it up and put the capstone on, there is none like Him, Exodus 9:14, “For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.” There is nobody like Him; Deuteronomy 33:26, “There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.” In view of the fact that our God is a great God, “King of kings,” “Lord of Lords,” Who has “a name which is above every name”; in view of the fact that our God is God of gods, the Creator, the Redeemer, and the Savior, we should love Him. We should worship Him. We should fear Him. We should serve Him. We should obey Him. And “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” Proverbs 9:10. • The Land of Sinim

Isaiah 49:11-12 King James Version 11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted. 12 Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim. Previous Bible Study: Salvation of the Gentiles Prophecy in Isaiah 49 In the previous Bible Study we discussed that verses 1-7 of Isaiah 49 is about the prophecy of the coming Servant of the Lord which is Jesus Christ who will give the light of Salvation to the Gentiles, it also prophesied that He would be betrayed by His own people, the Jews which is why Israel was not restored during His First Advent and God now focuses more on the Gentiles until their time is fulfilled (Luke 21:24) then God turns back to dealing with the nation of Israel. In verses 8 until the end of the chapter talks about the prophecy of the Restoration of Israel, Great Tribulation and Christ’s Millenium Reign. In Isaiah 49:11 – “And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.” This pertains to Jesus Christ setting up His Millenium Kingdom on Earth. Let’s look at Isaiah 2 for context. Isaiah 2:1-3 King James Version - The Mountain of the Lord 1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. The last days pertains to the Great Tribulation / Jacob’s Trouble, and it says “it shall come to pass” means it is after the Great Tribulation that Jesus Christ will establish His Millenium Kingdom on Earth, we see these last days coming to pass and the establishment of His Kingdom on the top of the mountains again in Micah 4. Micah 4:1-2 King James Version 1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. 2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Continuing in verse 11: “…and my highways shall be exalted.” Isaiah 35:8-10 King James Version 8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. 9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: 10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. So we see here that the highway of the LORD is called “The way of holiness”, and anyone who is unclean shall not be able to cross it. In Ezekiel 44 it highlights who are unclean to the LORD. Ezekiel 44:9 King James Version “Thus saith the Lord GOD; No stranger, uncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.” So in order to pass “The way of holiness”, from what we read you have to be a Jew (circumcised in the flesh and not a stranger among the children of Israel), if you’re a Gentile living during this time you’ll need to be a proselyte Jew. Regarding the circumcision in the heart, Deuteronomy tells us what we’ll need to do to circumcise the heart. Deuteronomy 10:12,16 King James Version 12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, 16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. Deuteronomy 30:6 King James Version “And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.” In today’s Church Age, the way to get saved is by Grace through Faith alone, and if a Jew wants to get saved they have to go to the Gentiles for the Saving Gospel, but during Christ’s Millennium Kingdom, the way to get save is by Works alone, Salvation will go back to the way of the Old Testament: keeping the commandments, animal sacrifices (Isaiah 56:7), and in addition they have to go on a yearly pilgrimage to Israel to worship and serve the LORD (Zechariah 14:16). Continuing in verse Isaiah 35:8 about the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein Jeremiah 32:39-40 King James Version 39 And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: 40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. Jeremiah 50:4-5 King James Version 4 In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God. 5 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten. The wayfaring men, even if they’re fools will not stray from the paths of the LORD as long as they have the fear of the LORD in them, and this is the everlasting Gospel that the angel will preach during the last days. Revelation 14:6-7 King James Version 6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. And if they fear the LORD then the LORD will make a covenant with them Psalms 25:14 King James Version “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.” Moving to Isaiah 49:12 – “Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.” During the Millennium Kingdom of Jesus Christ, all the remaining nations of the world will need to go to Jerusalem and serve and worship Him on a yearly basis. Zechariah 14:16 King James Version “And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.” And all of these people will be coming from the north, west and from the land of Sinim. Notice that the verse did not specify east and south. In Geography you’ll see that the East and South of Israel are the Arab Nations, and it’s probable that these nations will not exist during the Millennium Reign of Christ after Jesus judges the nations in his parable at Matthew 25:31-46, nations that helped the Jews during the Great Tribulation will enter in the Millennium Kingdom, while those that don’t help the Jews will be cast down to hell. The one thing that stands out in the verse is the “land of Sinim”, the word “Sinim” can only be found once in the entire Bible and it is only found here in Isaiah 49:12. So what is the land of Sinim, where can it be found today? Let’s look at the meaning of the word “Sinim” using both Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible (an index of every word in the King James Version (KJV), constructed under the direction of James Strong. Strong first published his Concordance in 1890, while professor of exegetical theology at Drew Theological Seminary.) and Young’s Analytical Concordance to the Bible (a Bible concordance to the King James Version compiled by Robert Young. First published in 1879, it contains "about 311,000 references subdivided under the Hebrew and Greek originals with the literal meaning and pronunciation of each.) Strong’s Concordance Sinim (סִינִים) -          Plural of an otherwise unknown name; Sinim, a distant Oriental region -- Sinim. Source: https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/strongs-number-H5515/ Young’s Concordance Sinim (סִינִים) -          A people in the far east; the Chinese? Source: https://archive.org/details/analyticalconcor0000youn_j4x7/page/892/mode/2up?view=theater Both the 19th Century Concordances agree that the location of the land of Sinim is in a distant eastern region / far east Let's look at other sources that argues that the land of Sinim in the Bible is referred to China. Excerpt from an Article by Timothy Tow, Far Eastern Bible College - Singapore The land of Sinim, according to Hastings’ Dictionary of the Bible, from the context, must have been the extreme south or east of the known world. The LXX favours the view that a country in the east is intended, and some modern commentators have identified Sinim with China, the land of the Sinae. The ancients’ view that Sinim refers to China is attested overwhelmingly by continuing modern Hebrew usage. My English-Hebrew, Hebrew-English lexicon by Prof M Segal and Prof M B Dagut, says China is סין (Sin) and Chinese is סיני (Sini). The root of “Sinim” is “Sin,” so “Sinim” points most assuredly to China and not to Aswan, which is translated from a different word סונה as stated above. Thus, one who is well-versed in Chinese is called a sinologue and sinology is the study of Chinese language, history, customs, etc; and the war between China and Japan was called the Sino-Japanese war. Excerpt from A Bible Believer Looks At World History by Frederick Widdowson Reliable historians state that no one knows where the Chinese came from, or what was the beginning of their race, or how old their civilization is. There is a great deal of fossil evidence in China and Mongolia to lead the atheistic scientist to conclude that Paleolithic, Stone Age man existed there for tens of thousands of years. But, since some of the most striking evidence of their early art and industry clearly came from Mesopotamia I would insist that once again we must look to the biblical narrative for answers. Some say that the Chinese descended from Ham, while others say Shem. Those who theorize that the Chinese came from Ham point to the son of Canaan called Heth. The cuneiform of the word Hittite is Khittae also known as Khitai which comes down to us as Cathay, an old word referring to the Chinese people. Quoting directly from Tim Osterholm who uses “Noah’s Three Sons” by Arthur Custance, “Genesis and Early Man” by the same author, Bill Cooper’s “After the Flood”, Henry Morris’ “The Genesis Record”, and Ruth Beechick’s “Genesis, Finding our Roots”, among others, as references; Genesis 10:6,15-17 King James Version 6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. 15 And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth, 16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite, 17 And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, “Sin (or Seni), a brother of Heth, has many occurrences in variant forms in the Far East. There is one significant feature concerning the likely mode of origin of Chinese civilization. The place most closely associated by the Chinese themselves with the origin of their civilization is the capital of Shensi, namely, Siang-fu (Father Sin). Siang-fu appears in Assyrian records as Sianu. Today, Siang-fu can be loosely translated, "Peace to the Western Capital of China". The Chinese have a tradition that their first king, Fu-hi or Fohi (Chinese Noah), made his appearance on the Mountains of Chin, was surrounded by a rainbow after the world had been covered with water, and sacrificed animals to God (corresponding to the Genesis record). Sin himself was the third generation from Noah, a circumstance which would provide the right time interval for the formation of early Chinese culture. Furthermore, those who came from the Far East to trade were called Sinæ (Sin) by the Scythians. Ptolemy, a Greek astronomer, referred to China as the land of Sinim or Sinæ. Reference to the Sinim in Isaiah 49:12 notes they came "from afar," specifically not from the north and not from the west. Arabs called China Sin, Chin, Mahachin, Machin. The Sinæ were spoken of as a people in the remotest parts of Asia. For the Sinæ, the most important town was Thinæ, a great trading emporium in Western China. The city Thinæ is now known as Thsin or simply Tin, and it lies in the province of Shensi. Much of China was ruled by the Sino-Khitan Empire (960-1126 A.D.), which Beijing became the southern capital. The Sinæ became independent in Western China, their princes reigning there for some 650 years before they finally gained dominion over the whole land. In the third century B.C., the dynasty of Tsin became supreme. The word Tsin itself came to have the meaning of purebred. This word was assumed as a title by the Manchu Emperors and is believed to have been changed into the form Tchina. From there the term was brought into Europe as China, probably from the Ch'in or Qin dynasty (255-206 B.C.). The Greek word for China is Kina (Latin is Sina). As well, Chinese and surrouding languages are part of the Sino-Tibetan language family. Years ago, American newspapers regularly carried headlines with reference to the conflict between the Chinese and Japanese in which the ancient name reappeared in its original form, the Sino-Japanese war. Sinology refers to the study of Chinese history. – Frederick Widdowson From an etymological perspective, the Chinese originates from Heth and Sin which are Ham’s line, but in biblical perspective they are more related to Shem as we read further to Genesis 10:18 Genesis 10:18 King James Version “And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.” The families of Canaan which include Heth and Sin are already spreading abroad possibly far from their initial borders, and when they spread abroad they’re more likely to intermingle with people in the region they’re going. When these families head east they would intermingle with Shem’s line, thus over the generation of intermingling they would be more related to Shem rather than Ham. This will also support Genesis 9:27 Genesis 9:27 King James Version 24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. 25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. 27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. You only see Ham’s line from Africa are treated as a servant of servants to the other two lines: Japheth and Shem in history. And some would argue that Genesis 9:27 is prophetic which was later fulfilled when Europeans colonized the known world and worshipping the God of Shem which Europeans are because of their Christian Religion. Excerpt from God and the Ancient China By Samuel Wang & Ethel R. Nelson The Significance of Qin In Isaiah’s day, the state of Qin was only one of hundreds of states under Zhou (770 – 256 B.C.). It was located in the present Gansu Province through which trade with the West was conducted. How is it that Isaiah chose Qin to indicate the Middle Kingdom? What was so special about Qin? Rang Kung was appointed as the first Duke of Qin (770 B.C.), then a small, aristocratic house. Under his administration, the state of Qin emerged as one of the 14 major states under the Zhou dynasty.8 It was 500 years after Isaiah that Qin Shi Huangdi defeated all the other competitive states and established the Qin dynasty. From then on, Qin represented the Middle Kingdom [China]. Simply put, the God of Isaiah, with divine foreknowledge, saw all the stages in the development of Qin—from a small, dependent, aristocratic house to becoming the famous Qin empire. God knew that the Duke of Qin would become ever stronger, equal with those of the other 13 states. Furthermore, He foresaw that after another 500 years, the Dukedom of Qin would still exist, defeat all the other states, and unite them as one empire, even choosing “Qin” as the name for the new empire! --Samuel Wang & Ethel R. Nelson Daniel 2:21 King James Version “And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:” Going back to Isaiah 49:12, the land of Sinim whether it be China or other Far East countries that will be one of the surviving nations during Christ’s Millennium Kingdom, and they will go to the House of the LORD in Jerusalem to serve and worship Him on a yearly basis. This would mean that there are going to be Jews in these lands that will go through the Great Tribulation and survive, so are there any Jews currently living in China right now? The Jews of Kaifeng: China’s Only Native Jewish Community Source: https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/the-jews-of-kaifeng-chinas-only-native-jewish-community/ Jews have lived in Kaifeng, a city in central China’s Henan province, for over 1,000 years. This makes the Kaifeng Jews the oldest Jewish community in China. The exact time Jews arrived in Kaifeng is not entirely certain. Most scholars believe that Jews first arrived during the Song Dynasty (960-1127 C.E.), from India or Persia (present day Iran), stops on the Silk Road. During this period, the Chinese people called the Jews “Tiaojinjiao” (the religion that removes the tendon) because Jewish dietary law (kashrut) forbids the consumption of the sciatic nerve. A bit later, during the Ming Dynasty, the emperor assigned Jews one of eight last names because he found Hebrew names confusing. To this day Kaifeng Jews can be recognized by their last names: Ai, Shi, Gao, Gan, Jin, Li, Zhang or Zhao. At its peak, the Kaifeng Jewish community had around 5,000 members. While some Kaifeng Jews have discreetly recovered their lost Jewish identities, there is nothing close to a formal, organized Jewish community in the city today. The Kaifeng Synagogue Kaifeng’s first synagogue was built in 1163 and destroyed by a flood in 1461. In 1600 a fire burned down the synagogue which had replaced the original building. A second flood destroyed the third version of the synagogue in 1642. Yet another flood wiped out Kaifeng’s last synagogue in the 1860’s. The community’s last religious leader died around the same time. Sketch of the Kaifeng Synagogue ca. 1722, via Wikimedia Commons. Kaifeng Jews had prayed in their synagogue in both Hebrew and Mandarin. They wore blue head coverings while worshipping, which led misguided neighbors to call them “the Muslims with the blue caps” in order to differentiate these congregants from “the Muslims with the white caps” (actual Muslims who wore white headgear for prayer). Jews in Kaifeng faced westward when praying — the direction of Jerusalem. Sketch of Kaifeng Jews worshipping, via Wikimedia Commons. Much like Jews outside of China, for centuries, Kaifeng Jews centered their Jewish practices around the synagogue: observing Shabbat and other Jewish holidays, holding circumcisions for sons and giving their children Hebrew names in addition to Chinese names. • Salvation of the Gentiles Prophecy in Isaiah 49

Isaiah 49:1-12 King James Version 1 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. 2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me; 3 And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified. 4 Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God. 5 And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength. 6 And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. 7 Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee. 8 Thus saith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages; 9 That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places. 10 They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them. 11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted. 12 Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim. Verse by Verse Bible Study and Commentary with Scripture Cross References In verse one: “Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far..” To whom does this passage referring to? Let’s go to Genesis 10 Genesis 10:1-5 King James Version 1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. 2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. 3 And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. 4 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. 5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. The passage is referring to the Gentile nations. Continuing in verse one: “..The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.” This part of verse one prophesied the birth of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. Luke 1:30-32 King James Version 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: In verse two: “And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword..” Hebrews 4:12 King James Version “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” So we noticed who was speaking starting from the first two verses, is none other than the Son of God, Jesus Christ. When we say “word of God” (small cap “word”) today we refer to the Bible, or to the scriptures, but it can also refer to Jesus Christ (Capitalized “Word”). John 1:1, 14 King James Version 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Why does the word of God compares to a twoedged sword? In the Bible the sword is usually attributed to two things: it’s use either for Judgement or for Protection. Sword for Judgement Ezekiel 21:1-3 King James Version 1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel, 3 And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked. Isaiah 34:5 King James Version “For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea (Edom), and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.” Revelation 19:15 King James Version “And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.” Sword for Protection Luke 22:35-36 King James Version 35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. 36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. This implied that if any of the apostles are carrying a purse (with money) then it is important to carry a sword with them to protect them from thieves and criminals when they go place to place preaching His Gospel. Ephesians 6:13, 17 King James Version 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Continuing with verse two: “..in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;” Let’s go to Psalms Psalms 91:1-3 King James Version 1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. Psalms 121:5-7 King James Version 5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. 6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. When you are under the shadow of God’s hand, it means that you are well protected from any evil. We see this in Matthew 2 when God protected Jesus Christ since His youth from Herod. Matthew 2:13-15 King James Version 13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. And we know that God still protects Jesus Christ when He was growing up when it says “and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;”. Let’s go back to Psalms where both shaft (or arrow) and quiver occurred in the Bible. Psalms 127:3-5 King James Version 3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. Arrows is being compared in Psalms 127:4 with “children of the youth”, and going back to Isaiah 49:2 it says “..and made me a polished shaft..” we see this in connection to Luke 2 when Jesus Christ was twelve years old when He was waxed strong in spirit and increased in wisdom, stature and in favour with God and man. Luke 2:40-42, 52 King James Version 40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. 41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. Continuing in Isaiah 49:2 - “..in his quiver hath he hid me”, this is a second time the LORD mentioned “hid” in the same verse. Let’s study how the word “hid” is used to derive the meaning and context Using Strong’s Concordance “..shadow of his hand hath he hid me..” - “hid” חָבָא (chaba) – to secrete, to hide Source: https://www.eliyah.com/cgi-bin/strongs.cgi?file=hebrewlexicon&isindex=2244 The word “secrete” means to retire from notice into a private place, which ties up with Matthew 2:13-15 cross reference used. “..in his quiver hath he hid me” – “hid” סָתַר (sathar) - to hide (by covering), literally or figuratively:--be absent, keep close, conceal, hide (self), (keep) secret Source: https://www.eliyah.com/cgi-bin/strongs.cgi?file=hebrewlexicon&isindex=5641 Let’s go back to Psalms 127:5 – “Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them..” in this verse it says that the man is happy when the quiver is full of arrows which is comparing to children in Psalm 127:4 , simply means a man is happy when he has a lot of children. Now let’s tie all this with Mark 6. Mark 6:1-3 King James Version 1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. 2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. This is during Jesus Christ’s three and a half year earthly ministry. In verse 2, people were astonished that this man (Jesus) suddenly appeared out of nowhere and is now teaching in the synagogue with such wisdom and doing mighty works such as healing the sick and casting out devils. All they knew about Jesus was that He’s the son of Mary, and the eldest brother among His siblings. This ties in with Psalms 127:5 – “quiver full of them” and Isaiah 49:2 – “in his quiver hath he hid me” the connection of this is that Jesus Christ was hiding in plain sight among His half siblings, children of Mary until it’s time to do His Father’s Will. In verse three: “And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.”, some say that the servant mentioned here is the nation of Israel but based on the context of verses 1-3 thus far this appears to be a dialogue between God the Father and God the Son, so is “servant” in the verse pertains to Jesus Christ? Let’s look at Philippians 2. Philippians 2:5-8 King James Version 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Yes, Jesus Christ took up the form of a servant, but does this mean that the word “Israel” is pertaining to a person, to the servant which is Jesus? Let’s look at Hosea 11. Hosea 11:1 King James Version “When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.” This prophetic verse was later fulfilled in Matthew 2:15 – “And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.” Let’s look at the semantics in Hebrew, we read that Israel is being point out as a person also, “And He (God the Father) said to me (Jesus Christ) My servant (God referring to Jesus Christ), You [are] Israel..”. Note: In Hebrew you read from right to left Source: https://biblehub.com/interlinear/isaiah/49-3.htm In verse 4: “Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God.” Jesus came for the house of Israel. Matthew 15:24 King James Version “But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry is focused on the nation of Israel (with an exception to the Canaanite woman in that chapter) to redeem Israel. He underwent many trials and temptations to spread His Kingdom message to the children of Israel, but in the end they rejected Him, tortured and crucified Him, so the Kingdom of Heaven didn’t come to fruition yet at His first coming so His work of establishing the Kingdom of Heaven as the verse says was in vain, but this will still be fulfilled in the future. John 18:36 King James Version “Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.” Jesus Christ confirms that His kingdom was not yet established. In Isaiah 49:5 – “And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength.” We read that Jesus Christ was form from the womb to be God’s servant, and His mission to redeem Israel and bring about His Kingdom of Heaven on earth, we read further that He knows Israel will not accept Him as their Messiah (“Though Israel be not gathered”), but He knows He is fulfilling something even greater. Isaiah 53:10-12 King James Version 10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. John 3:16-17 King James Version 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He came down from Heaven in order to save all people of this world, Jesus Christ came to the children of Israel first because they're His chosen people. In verse 6: “And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel..” Since the Jews rejected Jesus Christ as their Messiah, their Lord and Saviour and crucified Him (Matthew 27:22-25). And later rejected again when the Jews stoned Apostle Stephen (Acts 7:51-60) and also other Apostles who were persecuted by the Jews for preaching about Christ and Salvation by Grace which is contrary to the Mosaic Law. So the nation of Israel was set aside, but God is not done dealing with them, the restoration of Israel was put on hold at a later date, God is now focusing on the Gentiles. Romans 11:1-2 King James Version 1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel saying, Continuing in verse six: “..I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.” We know that Jesus Christ is the light of the world in John 8:12. John 8:12 King James Version “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” And in Luke 2:28-32, Simeon, a just and devout man in Jerusalem held the child Jesus and said Luke 2:28-32 King James Version 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. For as long as Jesus Christ is on this world John 9:5 King James Version “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” But who is the light now that Jesus is not on this world? Acts 13:46-48 King James Version 46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. 47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. 48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed. It's important to note that even though Apostle Paul was quoting the prophecy in Isaiah 49:6, the source of that true Light is still Jesus Christ, the Apostles and saved believers in Christ are the ones that bear witness to that Light, so that all men through him might believe. John 1:6-9 King James Version 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. In verse 7: "Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee." This verse is expounded in Isaiah 53, how our Messiah Jesus Christ had been despised and rejected of men even to His own nation. Even so Jesus Christ will go back in dealing with Israel when the time of the Gentiles be fulfilled (Luke 21:24-27) Romans 11:25-27 King James Version 25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. 26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: 27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. Verse 7 mentioned that Jesus is " a servant of rulers", it's important to point out that during Jesus' first coming, He did not once go against the rulers nor their way of governing at His time. This is Jesus' answer regarding the Roman taxation in Israel. Matthew 22:20-22 King James Version 20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. 22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. Continuing in verse 7: “..Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel..” We don't see this fulfilled yet in our time, this however will be fulfilled at a future timeline during Christ's Millennium Reign. And the Kings and princes that will worship Him and its mentioned that these have been the chosen, could be pertaining to the Saved Believers who will reign with Him in the Millennium Kingdom as Saved Believers can receive crowns as rewards in the Judgment Seat of Christ for their service to the Lord and crowns are usually worn by Kings and princes. Related: The Judgment awaiting ALL saved Christians | The Judgment Seat of Christ In verse 8: "Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee.." This is related to 2 Corinthians 6:2 concerning Salvation 2 Corinthians 6:2 King James Version "(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)" Continuing in verse 8: "..and I will preserve thee," Once you received Salvation by Grace through Faith (Ephesians 2:8-9) then you are eternally secured in Heaven, and no can take that away from you (unless you're left behind during the Great Tribulation), so there is no better timeline to get save than here while we're still in the Church Age. John 10:28-30 King James Version 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and my Father are one. There is an Assurance of Salvation Continuing in verse 8: "..and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages; Galatians 3:14-18 King James Version 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. 16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. 17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. 18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. Ephesians 1:13-14 King James Version 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. When we're saved we become the spiritual seed of Abraham through Jesus Christ and we receive the promises and blessings that God gave to Abraham. In verse 9: "That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places." The verse is related to Matthew 25 during the Great Tribulation, also called Jacob's Trouble. Matthew 25:32-40 King James Version 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. When an unsaved Gentile missed the Rapture , the way to get save becomes different, you not only need to have Faith but you also need to resist the Mark of the Beast and help the Jews through the Tribulation which includes visiting them in prisons. In verse 10: "They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.". This is related to Revelation 7. Revelation 7:14-17 King James Version 14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. 17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. In verse 11: "And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.". This is related to Isaiah 2, that in the last days during Jesus Christ's second coming, He will established His house in the top of the mountains which shall be exalted above the hills and from there He will rule over the nations on earth for a thousand years. ' Isaiah 2:1-5 King James Version 1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. 4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. 5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD. And in Isaiah 2:3 many people will go to the mountain of the Lord in order to learn and follow His ways and these people as said in Isaiah 49:12 will come from the north, west and from the land of Sinim.
